Handicapped parking permits are available from the ECU Parking and Transportation Services located at 305 East Tenth Street. Business hours are 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Phone (252) 328-6294/6963. There is a parking fee.
There is a ramp and automatic door at the main entrance to Joyner Library for wheel chairs. There is no automatic wheelchair access to the Music Library. For assistance entering the Music Library please call 252-328-6250.
Joyner Library has an electric scooter available for people with mobility limitations. See the guard at the Security Desk or call (252) 328-4156. A picture ID is required.
Joyner Library has some adjustable tables for patrons in wheel chairs. You may ask library staff for assistance in locating them.
Library staff in the Circulation Department of Joyner Library and the Music Library will pull material from shelves for people who cannot do so. When possible this will be done at point of need. If that is not possible then material will be pulled later and held at a service desk for pick up. Submit a Place Hold request
Electronic Delivery Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery staff will scan book chapters, periodicals, and microformat items into PDF or TIFF file formats for delivery to your desktop computer . If desired, these documents can be printed. This free service is available to ECU students, faculty, staff, alumni, retired faculty and staff, and Friends of Joyner Library. Patrons not affiliated with ECU should request this service from their local public or academic library. Request electronic delivery online
Many DVD, VHS, and streaming media titles have closed captions available. If you would like assistance using closed captioning, ask at a library service desk.
Books and journals in large print, Braille, or audio formats may be borrowed through interlibrary loan. We can obtain material from other academic, public, and special libraries, including the State Library of North Carolina's Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Material will be delivered to Joyner Library for use within the library. Some materials may be borrowed for home use. To inquire about Interlibrary Loan services call 252-328-6068. After 5 PM on weekdays and all weekend hours ask staff at the Circulation Desk for assistance or call 252-328-6518.
If you live in North Carolina, you may register with the state's Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped to participate in their delivery services. If you qualify for the service, material and equipment will be mailed to your home. Contact their staff for an application. If you live in another state, contact your state library to learn if a similar service is provided.
