The Hoover Collection consists of monographs, serials, pamphlets, leaflets, and ephemeral materials pertaining to Communist and anti-Communist organizations worldwide.
Maritime & Naval History
The Manuscript Collection is one of the premier archival collections documenting the U.S. Navy and maritime history from the 19th century to the present. Holdings pertaining to World War II naval topics are especially rich. Special Collections is also the official repository for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Most of the personal papers, oral histories, and organizational records in the Manuscript Collection pertain to North Carolina or the activities of North Carolinians. The North Carolina Collection contains the largest collection of printed North Caroliniana east of Raleigh.
Records, publications, papers, images, and other memorabilia documenting the history of East Carolina University from its founding in 1907 through the present are housed in the University Archives. A number of publications are also available in the North Carolina Collection, and the Manuscript Collection contains ECU-related personal papers.
The Manuscript Collection contains the papers of participants in every American war since the Revolution, with particularly rich WWII holdings and complementary oral histories. The North Carolina Collection contains printed material pertaining to the role of the colony and state, as well as citizens, throughout American military history.
Science Fiction & Fantasy
The Schlobin Collection acquires published science fiction and fantasy literature and reference materials.
Personal papers and oral histories documenting the work of Anglican, Baptist, Episcopal, Methodist, Pentecostal, and Presbyterian missionaries in such places as Africa, China, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Japan are available in the Manuscript Collection.
Holdings in the Manuscript Collection include personal files of tobacconists, warehouse records, and records of marketing and processing companies worldwide.
