Community Access to Library Computers
Most of the computers in the Joyner Library require that the user supply a login name and password in order to use them. This is to insure the security of the Library’s computers and the University’s network. However, many of the Library’s computers are available for use by members of the surrounding community. There are six terminals in the Reference section of the Library that require no login in order to be used. However, these terminals are on a first come, first served basis and are often in use. Also, the user’s access is restricted on the open terminals, preventing the changing of settings or installation of software. For these reasons, community members can visit the Circulation desk or the Digital Learning Center desk and, with a driver’s license or other valid ID, request a Community Access card.
The Community Access card will provide you with a username and password to log onto computers here in the Joyner Library. There are five computers in the Digital Learning Center lab that are set up for Community Access. They are the first four computers in the lab, near the Print Release Station, and the scanner-equipped computer located in the first row past the DLC Desk. These computers each have a sign placed on their monitors that reads “Community Access.” These are the only five computers that will allow Community Access logins in the DLC. There are an additional 8 computers located in the Reference computer lab near the main entrance that will allow Community Access logins. Community Access cards remain valid from the time of their issue until the Library closes on Sunday of that week.
Please note that we have a limited supply of Community Access cards, so each patron will be issued only one card per week. Hold onto this card, as we cannot issue you another until Monday of the following week.
