Return to Collections & Technical Services
On May 20th, Joyner Library migrated from Horizon to a new ILS which... you guessed it, is called Symphony! This migration was quite a transition and we in Collections & Technical Services have been preparing for this change for quite a while!
One big advantage that Symphony has over Horizon is the ability to run more reports within the department. Collections & Technical Services is *very* happy with this new ability!
Here's what been going on since December of 2008:
- Collections & Technical Services staff have participated in intensive Symphony training, both self-paced and live via the Web.
- A training database full of 'dummy' records was installed to allow faculty and staff to simulate work processes in the new interface.
- Starting April 13th a testing database was installed allowing faculty and staff to work with the new system with Joyner's own extracted data.
-
- This data was extracted back in November of 2008.
- During the first week of this testing period, bibliographic records that had not been deduped still existed in the database. This reflected multiple bib records of the same item owned by the different participating libraries (Joyner, Laupus & Little [Elizabeth City State]).
- In the live database, of course, all records were deduped grouping the different institution records beneath one primary record. This dedup process occurred in the 2nd week of the testing period.
- May 20, 2009 was the *Go Live* date for Symphony. Intensive testing and workflow implementation has been ongoing during and after this date to prepare for the transiiton.

Three Symphony wikis are available to be used by Joyner faculty & staff, to stay abreast of information pertaining to the Symphony transition. They can be found here:
**Staff and faculty will need to be logged in to access the wikis. If you do not have access, please contact Ann Carol Stocks.
Curious about the public interface??
