Art by Falkland Elementary and Homeschooling Students - Winter 2012/2013
Under the instruction of Natasha Cannon, kindergartners and 1st graders from Falkland Elementary School made a variety of colorful collages and paintings. Additionally, the kindergarten class made tissue-paper collage animals inspired by books by Eric Carle, author of the famous The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Also included in the exhibition was are done by home-schooled students under the direction of Meg Moore. These high-school aged students worked collaboratively to create first a collage using magazine images and then reinterpreted and enlarged the collage using colored pencils.

The Art of Book Making – Ridgewood Elementary - Summer 2012
5th grade art students created these fun, detailed accordion books under the instruction of Ridgewood Elementary art teacher, Mrs. Kim Lunde. The students learned about the different ways to construct the books, wrote a story, illustrated them, and added some fun, artistic details.

Art by Wintergreen Primary Students - Summer 2012
Students from various grades at Wintergreen Primary School created art pieces using several techniques, from silk painting to watercolor drawings under the instruction of Mrs. Aleigha Reott. Students in the Art Club learned about perspective and painted landscapes on canvas. 2nd graders learned how to paint on silk screens and also learned about African Mud painting. Kindergarteners explored the world of Abstract Art and used watercolor to paint abstract faces.

Art Works 2010
The art exhibit "Art Works 2010" is a selection of artwork created by K-12 Pitt County School students. The work was previously on display at the Greenville Museum of Art in Greenville, North Carolina. 

Blue Dog Murals - Spring 2012
These two murals are based on the Blue Dog books by George Rodrique and were painted on old projector screens that were going to be discarded when Wintergreen Primary installed SmartBoards. These were created by Wintergreen Primary School's Art Club under the instruction of Aleigha Reott. 

"Books Come in All Shapes and Sizes" Summer 2011
ECU's School of Art and Design students created handmade books during a course entitled Book Arts, taught by Lisa Beth Robinson. The exhibition includes work by Christopher Clark, Jasmine J. Hickey, Jessica Dea Reedy, Elizabeth Smith, Kendall Walston, Rachael Deely, Sarak K. Hooper, and Lisa Beth Robinson.

 

Books-Works: Innovative Structure in Book Arts from the Collection of Lisa Beth Robinson
Lisa Beth Robinson, a professor in ECU's School of Art and Design, exhibits her fine collection of hand-crafted books. Many of these books were created by former students in her Book Making classes taught at ECU. These books exhibit how the structure and craftsmanship of a book can sometimes be more powerful than the content.

A Collection of Birdhouses - Spring 2012

Under the instruction of Alice Arnold, ECU students in ART 3850 created beautiful hand-painted birdhouses. These birdhouses were created with the idea to help students design their own hands-on lesson plans.

 

ECU Alumnus Sculpture Exhibit
The Teaching Resources Center is presently exhibiting sculpture by Chase Key. He is a 2010 graduate from the School of Art and Design with a concentration in sculpture at East Carolina University.

Featured Educator - Summer 2010
The Teaching Resources Center honored Ann Fordham Rhem Schwarzmann as the 2010 Featured Educator. Ann is an ECU graduate and spent many years as a special education teacher. Ann was inducted into the ECU Educators Hall of Fame in October 1999.   Ann is a strong advocate (and sponsor) of the Storybook Theatre Outreach Program at East Carolina University.



Mr. David's Class - Summer 2010
This featured art display was loaned to us from Mr. David Liebreund's  K-5 students at Wahl-Coates Elementary School in Pitt County, North Carolina.  These wonderful visions were created through the challenges and the opportunities of autism.



Picturing America - Summer 2010
This exhibit features a set of prints received through the Picturing America Grant.  Picturing America, an exciting new initiative from the National Endowment for the Humanities, brings masterpieces of American art into classrooms and libraries nationwide. This grant provided a set of prints to the TRC as well as a set of prints for every Pitt County school.

Turning Discarded Book Jackets Into Unique Gift Bags - Spring 2011
In conjunction with the 2011 Paraprofessionals Conference at Joyner Library on May 13th, there is a Teaching Resources Center display of gift bags made from recycled book jackets by Suzanne Metcalf.  Suzanne, the Document Delivery Coordinator for Joyner Library, will lead a workshop during the Conference on how to make these unique bags, using recycled materials and found objects.  Come check out these one-of-a-kind pieces of art and learn more about what inspires Suzanne to make them.



Where The Wild Things Are: Learning in the 21st Century, Of Course
The 5th Grade of the YES program present their interpretation of the WILD THINGS based upon the famous 1963 children's book by Maurice Sendak. The work was created under the mentorship of Professor Alice Arnold of the ECU School of Art and Design.
