What information is needed to schedule my interview?

Once you select your time slot, you will be asked to provide the following information to allow the interviewer to structure the practice interview to best reflect the type of job interview you would experience:

  • Your major
  • The instructor(s) for whose class you are doing the interview
  • Your phone number
  • Intended job title
  • Company name
  • Role of selected position
  • Industry

Where can I get job information?

You may select a company and job from the ECU CareerNET database, or you may select a job from other job banks. You can find additional job banks by clicking on this link.

Who will conduct my interview?

Interviews are conducted by professionals from many fields.

Where do the interviews take place?

Face-to-face interviews will take place at the ECU Career Center at 701 East Fifth Street.  Phone interviews will occur by way of telephone at the time of your scheduled interview. The interviewer will call you at the number you provided.  Two new options are now available:  InterviewStream and Skype.  More information about these new options coming soon!

What should I do to prepare for the interview?

You should approach the practice interview with the same preparation you would dedicate to a real interview. Research the company and industry for which you will interview. The interviewer may ask you specific questions about the organization. You should also prepare questions to ask the interviewer, just as you would in a real interview setting. Bring a copy of your resume to the interview. For more information about interviewing, what questions to ask, and possible questions to expect, visit The Career Success Guide and the Interviewing section of our website.

What should I wear?

You should be neat, clean, well-groomed, and dressed in a suit whether your interview is face-to-face or via phone. Being professionally dressed during a phone interview will mentally prepare you to be more focused during the interview.

What happens if I miss my interview?

It is imperative that you honor the date and time that you initially schedule your interview. If you fail to come to your appointment, we cannot guarantee that another time will be available for you to reschedule an interview. The HIRED program is structured to provide you with a real-world interviewing experience; if you were to miss a real job interview, it is unlikely that you would be offered the job.

I need to reschedule my interview, what should I do?

Due to demand and the limited number of interview slots, it is recommended that you keep your original appointment. If you must reschedule due to a university approved absence, you must provide a written medical excuse and contact The Career Center at 252-328-6050 at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.
