The ECU Club Dance Team was created for female ECU students
who wish to continue competitive dancing, being a part of a close knit team,
and being fit and in shape. The ECU Club
Dance Team specializes in hip hop, jazz, pom and kick line. Dance experience is
necessary. However, the ECU Club Dance
Team practices throughout the year to perfect technique and skills.
The ECU Club Dance Team performs on the sidelines and at halftimes
for many different club sport teams. Currently,
they are the Dugout Dancers for the ECU Club Baseball Team. They also perform at Club Basketball, Rugby,
Lacrosse and Boxing events. In addition,
the ECU Club Dance Team also performs at various on-campus events. They perform
at intramural championship games in addition to being in front of large
audiences at Polar Bear Plunge and Barefoot on the Mall.
Community service is very important to the ECU Club Dance
Team. The dancers participate and perform in numerous volunteer and charity
events throughout the community, including the American Heart Association’s
Heart Walk, the annual Autism Walk, MS Walk, ALS Walk, Breast Cancer Walk,
Relay for Life, etc.
The ECU Club Dance Team travels to surrounding states to
represent East Carolina University in about five competitions every spring
semester. In their first year of existence, the ECU Club Dance Team won the
national championship in the open division at the JamFest Nationals in
Richmond, VA. In addition to their first
national championship, they also received the award for best choreography.
