Wellness Sport Leadership Speaker Series consists of a selection of recognized
speakers with a sport-related background that will be addressing various
leadership topics to multiple audiences at ECU and are suitable as programs for
residence halls, student organizations, academic classes, and other groups. Come join us for speakers that will engage,

Ms. Rachelle Chapman is an ECU Alum whose story of love, courage, inspiration, perseverance, and hope has gained international attention resulting in numerous stories and television appearances such as the Today Show, Inside Edition, and George to the Rescue. Mallory (Holtman) Fletcher - "Because Nice Matters" Tuesday, October 23, 2012 | 6:00pm | Wright Auditorium

Join invited speaker Mallory Holtman to hear how an amazing story of
kindness, character, and sportsmanship can provide lessons for our
everyday lives in the office and classroom. Holtman is best known as
the college softball player who came up with the idea to carry an injured
opponent around the bases after the opponent tore her ACL following a home run. After the inspirational act, the story was featured in
the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, the Ellen DeGeneres show
and many others. Holtman was the recipient of an NCAA Sportsmanship
Award, a Congressional Record, and an ESPY in 2008 for "Best Moment in
Sports." She is currently the Head Softball Coach at Central Washington
University and is still active on the national speaker circuit. Join

Dealing with difficult people can be challenging. University employees commonly deal with many difficult types of people and often these interactions can indulge a degree of conflict. Learn specific philosophies and techniques ("Verbal Judo") used by law enforcement personnel and sports officials to handle attacks and effectively resolve the situation. Invited speaker Mark Dreibelbis is an Assistant Commissioner with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association with a wealth of experience in presenting to various audiences and in dealing with difficult people. DJ Gregory - "Reaching for a Dream" Thursday, November 15, 2012 | 4:30pm | Harvey Hall at Ward Sports Medicine Building

DJ Gregory is a 33 year old who has cerebral palsy but has not let his disabilities affect his determination to achieve his goals and dreams. As an infant his parents were told he would probably spend his life in a wheelchair. But that didn't keep DJ from beating the odds as he endured five surgeries, learned to walk with a cane and eventually earned college degrees in sport management. In 2008 he embarked on a goal of walking every hole of every round of every PGA Golf tournament. This encompassed 44 tournaments and over 900 miles of walking. His story is chronicled in his book, "Walking With Friends" and was featured in an ESPN story (see link below). He currently resides in Savannah, GA where he is a motivational speaker while remaining close friends with many of the professionals that he met on the PGA Tour.
