Have questions about campus resources for your student now that classes are in session?  Get your answers right from the source! Many of our campus partners will have tables available to tell you more about their programs and how they can help your student to succeed. Partners that will be joining us are: the Counseling Center, Off-Campus Housing/Campus Living, ECU Parents Council, Office of University Scholarships, Study Abroad Program, Writing Center, Office of Global Affairs.

 

Family Weekend Canoe/Kayak Trip

2:00PM - 6:00PM | Student Recreation Center Loading Dock

Join our student recreation staff for an outdoor adventure! This trip is intended to be an experience for family members to enjoy the beautiful Tar River together.  Basic paddling techniques will be taught and coaching will occur on the water as needed or requested. Both canoes and sit-on-top kayaks will be available.  For more information on the trip and to register please visit our Campus Recreation and Wellness website.

 

ECU Master Class: Blackbeard and the Queen Anne’s Revenge **RSVP HERE**

Dr. Tim Runyan, Professor and Faculty Fellow, Honors College

2:30PM – 3:30 PM | Mendenhall Student Center, Room 244

Timothy J. Runyan is Professor and Faculty Fellow in the Honors College. Runyan received his PhD from the University of Maryland, and was awarded a fellowship for study at the University of London. He taught in Cleveland, Ohio before joining ECU as director of its graduate program in maritime history and underwater archaeology. From 2007-10, he served as manager of the Maritime Heritage Program, Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A scuba diver, Runyan has investigated historic shipwrecks in the Caribbean, the Atlantic coast and Alaska.

Join us as we officially kick off Family Weekend!  Chancellor Cecil Staton, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Dr. Virginia Hardy and our Parents Council President will kick off Family Weekend with a welcome and update on important university projects. (The meeting will start within 10 minutes of posted time. We ask parents arrive on time to ensure seating is available. Parents are asked to begin arriving at 3:15pm.)

 

The Parents Council welcomes all current and prospective Parents Association members to our annual fall meeting. This is a wonderful opportunity to get updates on current University issues and learn how ECU families are making a positive impact on their students’ college experience. You will also have the opportunity to hear from staff and the Parents Council. Families in attendance are eligible to win ONE SEMESTER OF FREE IN-STATE TUITION.

Hosted by the ECU Parents Council, this informal event allows parents and families to join ECU faculty and administrators for a meet and greet social in Mendenhall Student Center. Spend the evening getting to know our Parents Advisory Council, ECU staff/faculty, University leaders and other Pirate parents and families. **Tickets must be pre-purchased**

Join our excellent Recreation and Wellness staff for a great morning workout including a mix of SHBAM and athletic training!

 

Freeboot Friday

6:00PM - 8:00PM | Uptown Greenville, Five Points Plaza

Enjoy this free event offering live music and fun for the whole family, with an inflatable Pirate Ship for children, arts and crafts, Uptown restaurant food samplings, and a beer and wine garden for those 21 and older. Head to Five Points Plaza (5th & Evans) in the Uptown District for Freeboot Friday. You won’t want to miss special appearances by the ECU Marching Band and the ECU Dance Team as they lead Pirate fans in a Pep Rally like none other! Good company awaits you at Freeboot!

 

ALANA Recognition Ceremony & Reception

5:30PM - 6:30PM | Mendenhall Student Center, Room 244 (Reception immediately following in the MSC Great Rooms)

The Ledonia Wright Cultural Center traditionally recognizes the high academic achievement of self- identified underrepresented students at East Carolina University. Students are sent notification of the program. They are encouraged to RSVP, attend and bring parents/family members as a part of the recognition ceremony. Students and family members will have an opportunity to celebrate these academic achievements with other members of the campus community. **Attendance by invitation ONLY. Pre-registration required.**

 

Pirates After Dark: GOLD NIGHT

Family Weekend Entertainment Presented by SAB: Michael Kent

8:00PM – 9:00PM | Mendenhall Student Center, Hendrix Theatre

Join ECU's student activity board for an evening of magic and comedy for the whole family!  Michael Kent, comic, magician, wise guy. Voted 2014 Entertainer of the Year (Campus Activities Magazine), 2014 Magician of the Year (ACPA), his unique style of performing magic has made him a favorite among the hundreds of campuses he has visited.  In a style reminiscent of a late-night talk show, Michael invites the audience to laugh with him at the absurdity of a modern-day magician.  Michael's audiences experience what it is like when a stand-up comedian performs (and occasionally pokes fun at) the art of magic. Family Weekend Football Parking / Park and Ride Shuttle 

**THE FIRST SHUTTLE WILL DEPART HEALTH SCIENCES AT 8:30AM FOR THE TAILGATE; THE LAST SHUTTLE WILL DEPART AT NOON**

COST: $15.00 PER VEHICLE | Allied Health Sciences Campus, 100 Health Science Drive, Greenville, NC 27834

As a convenience for our visiting families, we will be providing parking with shuttle service to and from the stadium area. Shuttles will drop off at the tailgate location before the game and depart from 14th Street (behind Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium) during and after the football game. **Tickets must be pre-purchased**

 

Pirate Family Pregame Tailgate Picnic

COST(S): $20.00 PER PERSON

Time: 9:00AM-12:00PM | Top of College Hill, 14th Street Across from Gateway East & West Residence Halls

Bring the whole family out to the pre- game tailgate and enjoy great food, music, games, and MUCH MORE!  You can sit and soak up the sun, and mingle with other families before the game. Please note students are NOT able to use their meal plan for this event.  Menu will include: Scrambled eggs (with cheese on the side), turkey sausage, fresh fruit, hash brown casserole, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Eastern NC BBQ (smoked pulled pork), Vegan BBQ, buns for BBQ sandwiches, creamy cole slaw, cookies, iced tea and lemonade.

 

This is a catered event, not an open tailgating lot; no outside food, drinks or vehicles will be permitted in this area.

 

Family Weekend shuttles will drop off visitors at the tailgate picnic location. Gates open at three hours prior to kick off; first shuttle departs 30 minutes prior to tailgate.

 

**Tickets must be pre-purchased** YOU WILL BE ASKED TO SHOW YOUR TAILGATE TICKET TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE TAILGATE AREA.

Join Coach Scottie Montgomery and the ECU Pirates for another exciting game against the University of Central Florida in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium! 

 

Football Game Indoor Viewing ECU vs. UCF

Kickoff: 12:00PM | Mendenhall Student Center, Hendrix Theatre

Families wishing to view the game indoors may go to Hendrix Theater in Mendenhall Student Center.
**Parking may be available in the following areas: lot across from McDonald's on 10th Street, 9th Street lot across from Starbucks, lot behind the Student Rec Center.**

 

Movie Under the Stars: Finding Dory **RSVP HERE**

The friendly but forgetful blue tang fish begins a search for her long-lost parents, and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way. Light refreshments will be provided. Movie is rated PG, 97 minutes.  Sponsored by the ECU Parents Council and SAB Films.

Doggie Swim Pool Pawty

Campus Recreation and Wellness is inviting students and families to celebrate the last day of our outdoor pool being open for the season! All are welcome to bring their dogs and join the fun! All dogs must be leashed have proof of rabies vaccination. 

 

Student Brick Memorial Ceremony

“Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate”. The memorial ceremony brings together families, students and staff of the Pirate Nation to remember “fallen Pirates”, consisting of students that passed during the 2015-16 school year.
