Friday, February 21, 2014

12:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Spring Parents Weekend Check-In 
Mendenhall Student Center: First Floor Lobby 
All families are encouraged to start their weekend by picking up your name tags, schedule of events, additional tickets and other pirate giveaways!   

4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Parent Tour of Athletic Facilities 
Smith-Williams Center Basketball Practice Facility and Minges Coliseum  
Sponsored by East Carolina University Athletics. We hope you and your student are able to join us for this exciting tour of our new athletic facilities!  This event is FREE, we kindly ask that you RSVP, so parking and tour start location information may be sent to you. 

6:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Spring ALANA First Year Student Honors Recognition Ceremony  
Mendenhall Student Center (by invitation only)
Sponsored by the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center. The Ledonia Wright Cultural Center traditionally recognizes the high academic achievement of self- identified, underrepresented students at East Carolina University. Students with a 3.0 or higher GPA from the Fall 2013 semester, will be formally invited. Honorees are encouraged to RSVP to and bring parents/family members to celebrate their academic achievements with the campus community.  

7:30 PM - 10:00 PM:  Murder Mystery Dinner

9:30 PM - 11:45 PM: Movie- Captain Phillips 
Mendenhall Student Center: Hendrix Theater 
Join us for this free showing presented by the Student Activities Board. This pulse-pounding thriller is a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Mark Abdi), who takes him hostage.  Phillips and Muse are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, 145 miles off the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control. Movie is rated PG- 13.  Students, please bring your ID for whole family admission.

8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Student Recreation Center Open

Parents are welcome to join their student to take advantage of our fitness facilities during regular operating hours on Saturday.  Students may pre-print a free guest pass from the Student Recreation Center website, or sign-in at the front desk upon arrival.  North Recreational Complex will also be open from sunrise to sunset.  Students and parents are welcome to take advantage of the walking trails and disc golf at this off-campus facility. 

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Spring Parents Weekend Check-In

All families are strongly encouraged to check-in on Friday, however you may continue to pick up registration information on Saturday morning.   

9:00 AM- 11:00 AM: Beyond Freshman Year Housing: Where to Live in Greenville 
Mendenhall Student Center: Ground Floor
This local apartment mini-fair is designed for First and Second year students and parents. Is your student moving off-campus soon? This session allows you to meet and talk with apartment complexes in the Greenville area to discuss your student’s potential new home. Apartment staff will be on hand to answer questions and discuss details with students and parents. 

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Study Abroad Information Session: Making the World your Classroom 
Mendenhall Student Center: Ledonia Wright Cultural Center
This presentation from the International House is a great opportunity for parents and students to learn about how to take advantage of the study abroad opportunities available at ECU. 

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM: Preparing your Pirate for the Next Step: Information for Parents of Juniors and Seniors 
Mendenhall Student Center: Billiards
This special session for 3rd and 4th year students and pirate parents to learn more about preparing for the future. Topics will include Career Services, Graduate School as well as Medical and Dental Studies.  

8:30 AM - 3:00 PM: Career Leadership Conference 2014 
Mendenhall Student Center (For current students only)
Sponsored by the Career Center, Center for Student Leadership & Engagement, and Volunteer Service Learning Center.  This one-day career leadership conference will facilitate career readiness and leadership development among East Carolina University students. The conference will provide interactive networking, mentoring and experiential learning opportunities through collaboration with faculty, staff, community partners, alumni and parents. We ask parents to encourage their students to attend, as this is a student-only conference, students may register online here

12:00 PM and 3:00 PM: Men's Club Baseball  vs. James Madison University
Clark-LeClair Stadium 
Cheer on the Pirates as they compete in a doubleheader against James Madison University.  This event is free.

2:30 PM - 3:00 PM: Parents Association Spring Parents Meeting 
Smith-Williams Center Basketball Practice Facility  
Stay informed and Stay Connected! The ECU Parents Association invites current and potential members to join us for the meeting. All ECU parents association members are encouraged to come out and learn more about the programs, projects and volunteer opportunities to keep parents engaged with East Carolina University. 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM:  Pre-Game Mixer and Parent Recognition and Awards Ceremony 
Smith-Williams Center Basketball Practice Facility  
Sponsored by ECU Parents Council. Enjoy great food, great fun in one of our most exclusive and impressive venues on campus. Our pre-game mixer will feature special guests to get us energized for the game as well as the opportunity to play basketball in the new facility. We will also announce the winner of the “ECU Family of the Year” award. Applications are due by February 7th. Submit a Family of the Year nomination online here. In addition to the Family of the Year award, student clubs and organizations will also recognition outstanding parents that have made a difference in their lives. This is an event that you don’t want to miss! 

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Men's Basketball vs Rice
Minges Coliseum 
GO PIRATES!! In collaboration with ECU Parents Council, ECU Athletics and Student Government Association, we are proud to announce the first-ever Spring Parents Weekend Basketball game. Come cheer on the Pirates vs. Rice! ECU Parents will be recognized during half-time of the game, make sure to wear your purple and gold! 

8:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Pirate Talent Showcase 
Mendenhall Student Center: Hendrix Theater  
Was your pirate BORN TO PERFORM? All Pirate students are invited to apply for a performance spot in the Pirate Student Showcase. The Pirate Student Showcase concludes will highlight the remarkable skills, talents and passions of the Pirate student body. Audience members will enjoy a wide variety of performances that celebrate the diversity and spirit of the Pirate experience. The Pirate Student Showcase promises to engage, enlighten, and entertain!   

9:30 PM - 12:00 PM: Pirate Underground: Free Billiards, Bowling and Family Games!

You and your family members are invited to gather in Pirate Underground and enjoy FREE bowling, billiards, and games! 

9:30 PM - 11:30 PM: Movie- Gravity 
Mendenhall Student Center: Hendrix Theater 
Join us for this FREE Showing sponsored by Student Activities Board. This movie starts Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, a scientist on a space mission headed by astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), a talkative, charismatic leader full of colorful stories that he shares with his crew-mates as well as mission control.  As the two are on a space walk, debris hits the area where they are working, and soon the pair finds themselves detached from their ship stranded in space.  While figuring out what steps they can take to save themselves, Stone grapples with a painful past that makes he consider giving up.  Movie is rated R. Students, please bring your ID for whole family admission.
