Emily McLamb, M.Ed.
Director for Student Activities and Organizations
Emily joined the Student Activities and Organizations staff at ECU in July 2008 after spending several years serving as the Associate Director for Marketing and Events for Conference USA. She oversees the operations, programs, activities/events, staff members of the Office of Student Activities and Organizations, as well as the SAO Marketing Office.
A native of Van Wert, Ohio, McLamb completed her Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy from MSJ in 2001 and earned her Master's in Sports Administration from Xavier in May 2003.
Emily enjoys supporting ECU Athletics, spending time at the beach, and spending time with friends and family, especially her dog, Nola.
Krista Wilhelm, M.S.
Assistant Director for Educational Programming
Krista joined our staff in November 2011, having spent several years working in Student Government Association, Office of Student Involvement, and the Center for Student Leadership & Engagement. Krista earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from East Carolina University. She continued her studies to receive her Master's degree in Counselor Education from East Carolina University.
Krista is the advisor for the Student Activities Board Films, Initiatives, and Visual Arts Committees. She also oversees the Co-Curricular Collaborations Initiative within the Department of Student Involvement and Leadership.
Krista enjoys spending time with friends and family, serving in the community, and likes to travel. She wants to go skydiving soon!
Interim Assistant Director, Student Activities & Assessment
Darrius Joined our staff in the Spring of 2014. He is a native of Eastern North Carolina that graduated from ECU with a Masters Degree in Exercise and Sport Science in the Fall of 2012. While at ECU, he served as the Graduate Assistant for Student Activities in the Office of Student Activities and Organizations. Prior to coming to ECU, Darrius worked as a director at the Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort County. He is an avid sports fan that follows a multitude of teams in his free time, with his favorites being the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Titans.
Alyssa McDonald, M.Ed.
Interim Assistant Director for Student Organizations (Development)
joined our staff in June 2013. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Communications from Austin Peay State University in May 2009 and earned her
Master of Education degree with a concentration in higher education
administration from Middle Tennessee State University in August 2012.
Alyssa oversees the developmental programming and advisement
of the 300+ student organizations on our campus. She manages
organization recognition and registration, coordinates leadership programs, and
oversees advisement and accountability processes for student organizations.
work, Alyssa serves as an advisor for the Delta Omicron chapter of Alpha Delta
Pi here at ECU. In addition, she enjoys spending time with friends and family,
music, reading, and cooking.
Justin Janak, M.B.A.
Assistant Director, Student Activities & Assessment
Interim Assistant Director, Finance Administration, Student Involvement and Leadership
Justin joined our staff in January 2012, coming from Mount St. Mary’s University where he spent time as a student and most recently served as the Associate Director of Campus Activities. Justin earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics (2007) and Master’s degree in Business Administration (2009) from Mount St. Mary’s University.
As the advisor of the Student Activities Board Entertainment and Special Events committees he truly enjoys guiding students in their personal and leadership development while organizing quality events and entertainment. Justin also serves as an assessment resource, assists all the units in Student Involvement and Leadership in their planning, implementation, and analysis of their unique assessment processes, and coordinates the accurate tracking of assessment data each year.
Justin is loving North Carolina and relaxing pool side! In his spare time he enjoys spinning Top 40 as a DJ and is a voracious reader.
Darlene Langley, B.A.
Administrative Support Associate
Darlene joined our staff in March 2008. Darlene earned a Bachelors of Art degree in Business Administration/Management from Shaw University in May 2010. She is pursuing a Masters degree in Christian Education from Apex School of Theology with a planned completion date of May 2014. Her future goals is to reach out to unfortunate children who have special needs in their life. Her motto is, "True success is overcoming the fear of being unsuccessful."
Darlene is responsible for managing the financial components of our office, including our ledgers, processing payroll, coordinating interdepartmental transfers and direct payments, etc. She is the first face visitors see in our office and represents the front line of our customer service efforts.
Darlene enjoys spending time with her family, cooking on the grill and being active in the church community.
Taylor Porter, B.S.
Graduate Assistant for Student Activities
Taylor joined our staff in December 2013 after completing a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health Studies, Pre-Health Profession
concentration with a minor in Biology from East Carolina University.
Taylor is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Public Health.
Taylor is primarily responsible
for assisting in the planning and implementation process of the events that are
presented by the Student Activities Board and Pirate Night. One of Taylor’s
favorite sayings from Walt Disney is “All our dreams can come true if we have
the courage to pursue them.”
Taylor likes to spend time with his family and friends,
going to Disney World, and reading, when time allows. His goal after receiving
his Master’s is to pursue a career in medicine, preferably a doctor.
Brian Wideman, B.S.
Graduate Assistant for Student Activities & Organizations Marketing
Brian joined our staff in May 2012 after completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Fort Hays State University. Brian is is actively pursuing a Master's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Health Care Management, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2014.
Brian is responsible for overseeing marketing requests, working directly with a staff of graphic designers and photographers. He frequently meets with student organizations to discuss marketing strategies and how to carry them out. He maintains the ECU website for Student Activities and Organizations and also assists in the promotion of the Department of Student Involvement and Leadership, as well as other events across campus.
Brian enjoys hanging out with friends and family, going to the beach, and traveling. He is looking forward to starting a career as a health care administrator after graduation.

Justin joined our staff in May 2012 after completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health Studies, Pre-Health Profession concentration with a minor in Biology from East Carolina University. Justin is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Public Health.
Justin is responsible for assisting in the developmental programming for the broad range of student organizations on East Carolina's campus. Justin is there to make sure that ECU's motto, "Servire," to serve, is being expressed in each of these organizations.
