Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many organizations should I be in? This will be different for each student: some students can be involved in several organizations and still do very well in classes. Some can only be active in one or two. Either way is fine. The important thing is to find a balance that allows you to have fun and meet new people and also maintain your grades.

  • How do I join an organization? Each organization has a different process for accepting new members. Many are open to everyone, many are open by invitation only (honor societies, fraternities, etc.) The best way to find out is to look at the Organization’s website to find out, look for flyers around campus, or attend the Get a Clue Involvement fair.

  • How do I find out about specific organizations? Besides using the resources on this website to find out what organizations are here on campus, there are several opportunities to meet organizations. Get a Clue is an Involvement fair that happens every semester where most organizations host an information table. This event is a great way to walk around, see what is available, and interact with a lot of the student organization leaders in a fun and social atmosphere!

  • How many organizations does ECU have? There are currently over 400 Registered Student Organizations. Be sure to check out our complete list of organizations and a description of them.

  • How do I start a new organization? We accept applications for new organizations in the first full (Monday-Friday) week of classes. We require that each new club have at least 10 interested members and a committed full-time faculty or staff advisor. For more details on starting a new club, click here.

  • How much do I have to pay for the movies? Movies are shown in Hendrix Theater every Wednesday through Sunday (times may vary). Movies are free to anyone with a one-card. This great service can be provided thanks to the activities fees paid by students each year.  ECU community members will be allowed to bring one guest with them. To view the current SAB Films schedule, click here. *Subject to change based on availability of film and venue.

  • Other schools bring Lil’ Wayne and Kanye West. Why can’t we bring big acts like that? In order to meet a wide variety of interests and needs across campus, we plan a number of events throughout the year to entertain and educate students. Many schools are able to bring bigger-name acts because they bring fewer events and put the majority of their event resources into big-name concerts. We seek to provide a variety of entertainment venues and still bring concerts with notable and exciting artists!

  • What is the Student Activities Board? The Student Activities Board is a student-run organization that plans entertaining and educational programs on campus. This group plans events like large-scale concerts, speakers, films, novelties, an art gallery, and cultural and educational programs. For more information about SAB, check out their website or find them on Facebook.

  • How can I help plan events like concerts or Barefoot on the Mall? Check out the Student Activities Board website (listed above) to find ways to get involved! Interest meetings are held at the beginning of each semester.

  • What are the Major Events on campus? Some of the Large-scale events that happen every year on campus include:
    • Pirate Palooza- Held in August, right before classes begin to welcome back all students.
    • Homecoming- A week of activities are planned to celebrate the Homecoming weekend and football game.
    • Family Weekend- Held in the fall, this weekend of events welcomes families to ECU.
    • Midnight Madness- This event provides entertaining activities on Halloween night in both Mendenhall Student Center and Student Recreation Center.
    • Barefoot on the Mall- Every Spring, Barefoot on the Mall offers a chance to celebrate the year with entertainment on the Mall.

  • Where is the Center Located? We are located in Mendenhall 114, which is directly across from the Mendenhall Welcome Desk.
