Start an Organization

If you are looking for an organization but can’t find what you are looking for, consider starting a new organization!

Applications for new organizations are accepted in the first full week (Monday-Friday) of each semester. Up to ten organizations are accepted into the New Organization Recognition Process each semester. If more than 10 groups apply, a lottery is held on the second Monday of the semester. New organizations must have a minimum of ten interested members along with an advisor who is a full-time ECU faculty member.

Once admitted into the recognition process, organizations must have at least one member attend four workshops, where information is shared on General University Policies, Building a Constitution, Reserving Space, Fundraising and Handling Money, and Risk Management.

After attending the four workshops, organizations must present information about their organization to a recognition committee, comprised of both students and staff members. This committee will then make a recommendation to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life, who will make the final decision for recognition. In all, this process usually takes about six weeks to complete.

To get more information about the recognition process, please view the New Organization Approval section of the Organization Handbook, or e-mail studentorganizations@ecu.edu.
