The purpose of the New Employee Onboarding Program is to provide new employees within Student Affairs with a sense of belonging and the necessary information to a successful start of their career at ECU. Our goal is to implement an onboarding process that will enhance, engage and enlighten new employees to the dynamic workings of Student Affairs through a series of workshops, surveys and meetings. Onboarding is a business process designed to help new employees become productive members of an organization. The term "new employee” is commonplace in both organizational research and managerial practice. Interestingly, though both researchers and practitioners recognize the importance of effectively managing new employees, the term "new employee" remains undefined. For our purposes, we are defining "new employee” as an individual who has been employed in the division of Student Affairs at East Carolina University for less than eighteen months.
