Laketha Brown
Laketha Brown

Senior, Nursing Major

Laketha Brown is a native of Greenville, NC. She recently graduated from East Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. While attending ECU, Laketha was selected for the volunteer spotlight feature in the June 2010 edition of A Pirates Guide to Service. Additionally, North Carolina Campus Compact awarded Laketha the 2010 Community Impact Student Award for East Carolina University last Fall. She most recently served as a board member on The Fairytale Boutique Advisory Board and volunteered at the 2011 Fairytale Boutique. Laketha hopes to continue her education and become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who specializes in acute and chronic conditions.

Brittany Carr
Brittany Carr

Senior, Biology and Asian Studies Major

Brittany Carr, from Mount Olive, NC, is a senior biology and Asian studies major.  She is an EC Scholar, Early Assurance Scholar, and serves on the ECU Relay for Life committee.  Her research explores the genetic controls involved in adipose cells.  After graduating this May, Brittany plans to attend the Brody School of Medicine in the fall.

Chelsea Demarest
Chelsea Demarest

Junior, Nutrition Science Major

Chelsea Demarest is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina.  She is currently a nutrition science major and is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key International Honour Society, The Student Dietetic Association,  Gamma Beta Phi service society and is a third year member of the Servire Society. Chelsea has taught yoga classes on campus for the past three years. She is currently applying for admission to ECU's Physician Assistant program.  As a Physician Assistant, Chelsea hopes to provide healthcare and educational programs targeted to heart disease and diabetes to underserved rural communities in North Carolina.

AJ Malicdem
AJ Malicdem

Senior, Biomedical Engineering Major

AJ is from Virginia Beach, VA, a Senior Biomedical Engineering major graduating in December 2011. He is the current Student Government Association Chief of Staff and Historian for the Eta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. During his membership on the ECU Track & Field team in his freshman and sophomore year, he received All-Conference USA honors in the 60-m High Hurdles and Conference-USA Honor Roll. Since then, he has received Dean's List and Honor Roll, and was recently awarded Chapter Brother of the Year for the Eta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Upon his final tenure here at ECU, AJ hopes to pursue his masters degree in Information Technology and eventually have a career for the Federal Government.

Christina Mills
Christina Mills

Senior, Middle Grades Education Major

Christina Mills is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina. She will be graduating in May with a degree Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Mathematics and Language Arts. She has volunteered over 1800 hours with Project Heart, is the secretary of Omicron Delta Kappa, and president of the Collegiate Middle Level Association. Upon graduation, she plans to seek a career as a teacher.

Deepak Ravindranathan
Deepak Ravindranathan

Senior, Biochemistry and Chemistry Major

Deepak, from Calabash, NC, is a current East Carolina Scholar pursuing bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry and chemistry. He is the current president of ECU Chemistry Club and the vice-president of Rural Health Volunteer Society. Aside from that, he conducts research on platinum complexes and is primary author of a publication. He also volunteers at various clinics and organizations and serves as a chemistry undergraduate teaching assistant. Upon graduating from East Carolina, Deepak hopes to attend medical school.

Andrew Ross
Andrew Ross

Junior, Recreational Therapy Major

Andrew, a native of Monroe, NC (just south of Charlotte, NC), is majoring in recreational therapy with a concentration in pediatrics. During his time here at East Carolina University, Andrew has served as Elections Chair and Chief Justice of the Student Government Association, as well as President of the Recreation and Leisure Studies Undergraduate Society. Andrew continues to be an avid Honor Roll student and plans on attending East Carolina for his Masters in Occupational Therapy after graduation.

Christina Mills
Kyle Smithwick

Senior, Political Science Major

Kyle Smithwick, a Belhaven North Carolina native is currently a Senior Political Science major. During his time at ECU Kyle has served as the President of the East Carolina University Ambassadors accumulating over 1000 volunteer hours on campus and in the community. Kyle served as a student caller on behalf of the ECU Annual Fund personally raising over $25,000 for the university during his time there. In the summers of 2009 and 2010 Kyle served as an Orientation Assistant and this summer will serve as a part of the professional staff to help oversee the Orientation program. After graduation next May, Kyle hopes to attend Law School or a Political Science graduate program to pursue a career in Politics and Government.

Katie Thompson
Katie Thompson

Exercise Physiology Major

Katie Thompson is a native of Apex, NC and is a current Honors student pursuing a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. After undergrad, she hopes to attend ECU's Physical Therapy School. Katie is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society,  National Resident Hall Honorary, Honors Ambassadors, and Pre-Physical Therapy club. This past year Katie has volunteered over 300 hours with ECU Ambassadors and she is excited to hold an executive position as vice president of ECU Ambassadors next year. In her free time she plays on 7 different intramural teams, attends Baptist Campus Ministry services and loves to paint!
