The general manager should be knowledgeable of basic production, business and staffing requirements, and also should be knowledgeable of magazine journalism, First Amendment rights, and restraints affecting magazines. The general manager is responsible for providing a publication consistent with the format approved by the University Media Board.
The general manager is responsible for keeping the University Media Board well informed about the magazine division's general operations, staff needs, maintenance and development requirements. The general manager will be the contact for the printer before and after each magazine has gone to the printing company. The general manager will approve any needed changes in Student Media magazine for printing after discussing the changes with the management staff of each magazine.
Major responsibilities of the general manager include serving as chief spokesperson for the division and maintaining harmony within the staff.
The general manager must meet the following requirements:
• Be enrolled as a full-time student at East Carolina University.
• Have a minimum 2.50 grade point average at time of selection and maintain a minimum 2.50 grade point average while employed at Student Media.
• Ability to lead staff members and direct their activities.
• Ability to handle responsibility and meet deadlines.
