WZMB is a student-operated radio station that broadcasts 24 hours a day. WZMB serves as a training ground for students interested in broadcasting, journalism, programming, production and business. The weekly programs include call-in shows, news and sports, and a host of other shows created by students. The music formats cover a wide array of genres, including alternative, jazz, roots, rock, heavy metal and hip hop. WZMB is located on the ground floor of Mendenhall Student Center.
Station Manager's Responsibilities1.) Supervise the selection, development, and scheduling of entertainment programming for broadcast;2.) Interviewing, hiring, and supervising all disc jockeys and news/sports announcers;3.) Training new personnel;4.) Enforcing disciplinary guidelines for employees who violate station policy after informing Coordinator for Student Media;5.) Maintaining a contact list of out-of-town businesses and other organizations which the music Student Manager must contact; in cooperation with the administrative associate.6.) Manage the On-Air Automation System. Listen after hours for dead air and other issues.
Promotional Responsibilities1.) Plan and execute on-air promotions and those in other media;2.) Develop at least one, but no more than two, promotional project each month;3.) Write scripts for major promotions which are submitted to the Production Student Manager for recording;4.) Develop announcements for major promotions and shows and forward the material to Production Student Manager for recording;5.) Write press releases to student newspapers and other media outlets announcing upcoming promotional activities;6.) Maintain close contact with university with university and community organizations;7.) Solicit cost estimates when more extensive promotions are planned, and ask professional staff member what funds are available for promotions.
• Be enrolled as a full-time student at East Carolina University.• Have a minimum 2.50 grade point average at time of selection and maintain a minimum 2.50 grade point average while employed at WZMB.• Ability to lead staff members and direct their activities.• Working knowledge of a radio station.• Ability to handle responsibility and meet deadlines.
