Tryouts going on now!

The East Carolinian is now looking for a few tenacious pirates to become Reporters who want to make a difference during their time at East Carolina University. No experience is necessary, just a deep desire to report the news and tell the stories of your fellow pirates. Reporters are needed to write about campus and city life, arts and entertainment and sports, all within a structured program run by a student organization at the center of what's happening in Greenville and ECU.

Tryouts are held at The East Carolinian, Suite 100of the Self-Help Building, located on the corner of Third and Evans Streets downtown Greenville.

Tryout test – You will be asked to write a news story based on a set of facts, answer some current events questions and provide personal info. The list of those who will be asked to advance to the next phase of the application process will be posted by 12 noon Friday, Jan. 23.



Student Media Account Executive

The Account Executive is responsible for prospecting and calling on local advertisers to participate across all available Student Media outlets, including but not limited to The East Carolinian student newspaper and WZMB 91.3 FM college radio.

Some sales experience is preferred, but not required. Other job duties include attending weekly sales meetings, managing the advertising sales and production process, working closely with design staff and generating new sales leads.

Must be able to achieve sales goals, work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

Students will gain extensive knowledge of traditional and digital advertising, exceptional sales skills and strategies as well as marketing and public relations best practices.

Each Account Executive reports to the Business Manager and is expected to keep a minimum of 10 office hours a week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This is a commission-based position. Interested applicants must be a student currently enrolled at East Carolina University, possess and maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA and be in good disciplinary and academic standing with ECU.

Student Media Graphic Designer

Designers are responsible for creating design solutions for Student Media that have a high visual impact. Design skills are required for a huge variety of products and activities such as designing advertising for local businesses that will be placed in all Student Media, and creating marketing materials to help promote Student Media products and events.

This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in graphic design careers who need to expand their portfolio. Students will gain extensive knowledge of traditional and digital advertising design, as well as other multi-media design techniques and promotional campaign execution.

Designers report to the Business Manager and are expected to keep a minimum of 10 office hours a week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Interested applicants must be currently enrolled at East Carolina University, possess and maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA and be in good disciplinary and academic standing with ECU.
