Procedures for Summer School Athletics Financial Aid

A limited amount of athletics financial aid is available for summer school enrollment.  A student-athlete must request summer school athletics grant-in-aid from his/her respective coach.

Students are encouraged to take more than the minimum number of hours (over the 12 credit hour minimum) during the regular academic year and should not anticipate an automatic guarantee of summer school funding. There is, however, flexibility within the system and each application for aid will be considered on an individual basis.

NCAA rules state that only student-athletes on athletics scholarship during the previous academic year may be eligible for summer athletics aid. NCAA rules also state that summer aid must be proportionate to the amount of aid received the previous academic year.

Students must complete a Summer School Request Form obtained from their coach. The form also requires that an academic profile be completed by the student and the athletics academic coordinator.

Students should return the form to their coach who must then submit the form to the Executive Associate Director of Athletics at least two weeks prior to pre-registration for the summer sessions. (The two week period is required if a decision is to be rendered prior to pre-registration. Requests received at a later date will be reviewed as soon as possible.)

After review of the summer school athletics aid request, the Executive Associate Director of Athletics will send a written response (i.e., approve or deny) to the respective coach. Copies will also be sent to the Assistant Athletics Director for Student Development and the Director of Compliance.

If a student-athlete is approved for summer school athletics aid, the coach must then submit a Grant-In-Aid Application Form to the Athletics Business Office.
