A student-athlete who has been awarded books as part of the athletic grant-in-aid program may receive required course-related textbooks. Other supplies and equipment such as pens, paper, computer discs, etc. are not included in the grant-in-aid. The department of athletics will provide textbooks for scholarship athletes through the student store located on main campus. At the beginning of each fall semester, student-athletes receiving a book scholarship are required to sign an agreement stating the terms of the textbook policy.

Checking Out Books

  1. Once you have attended all your classes, you should go to the Dowdy Student Store located in Wright Annex to obtain your books. Student-athletes should pull their own books from the bookshelves.  Prior to checking out, student-athletes must have a copy of their schedule and a current 1 Card.
  2. For the first seven days of classes during the regular academic year, one student store register will be designated for athletes only. At that register, your name will be checked to determine if you are on book grant. The textbooks will be charged to the athletic department. If the student store does not have a needed text in stock, you should go to the University Book Exchange (UBE) located on Cotanche Street. The same check-out procedure is used at UBE as at the student store.  The designated register for UBE is located upstairs.  For texts not found at the student store or UBE, vouchers will be issued for purchase at other retailers. To obtain a voucher, see Jennifer Johnson, Textbook Coordinator, in 254 Ward Sports Medicine Building.

Returning Books

  1. Student-athletes are responsible for returning their books by the last exam day of the semester. Books can only be returned to the Bookroom located in Scales Field House during the posted hours. A student-athlete who does not return books during the designated time will be tagged at the end of the next semester's drop/add period.
  2. After a certain date determined at the beginning of each semester, books will not be accepted by the athletic department, and student-athletes will be required to pay the used price for all outstanding textbooks. Payment must be made to the Office of Student Development in order to receive books the following semester and to have your tag removed.   CD's that accompany your books must also be returned or a fee ranging from $10 to $50 will be assessed for failure to return them with the designated book.
  3. Records will be tagged for outstanding books, prohibiting further registration at East Carolina University or transfer of any records to another university until restitution is made.
  4. If you obtain books for a class that you subsequently drop, return those books to the Student Development office as soon as possible.
