Mission of ASB

Alternative Spring Break (ASB) at East Carolina University seeks to educate student-volunteers about specific social issues by immersing them in diverse cultures and environments across the country to engage in service-learning. ASB not only seeks to involve, educate and heighten students' social awareness, but to encourage lifelong social action.

ASB Description

Alternative Spring Break gives students the opportunity to use their spring break to benefit society.  An Alternative Break program places teams of college students in communities around the nation to engage in community service and experiential learning during their spring break.  Students perform short-term projects for community agencies and learn about issues such as literacy, poverty, racism, hunger, homelessness, and the environment. The objectives of the program are to involve college students in community-based service projects and to give students opportunities to learn about the problems faced by members of communities with whom they otherwise may have had little or no direct contact.  ASB is about meeting new friends, sharing experiences, having fun, and most importantly helping others.
