Sunday, September 27 - 8:00 am - 12:30 pm. FULL

Meeting Time and Location: 8:00 am (morning trip) or 2:00 pm (afternoon trip) at the rear of the Student Recreation Center (SRC), located off Ninth Street at Cotanche Street. The loading dock has direct access to the Adventure Center. You will be transported via 15 passenger van to the put-in access at Town Park. Vehicles will return you to the SRC at the conclusion of the trip- approximately 12:00 pm (morning trip) or 6:00 pm (afternoon trip). Departure from the SRC will be promptly at 8:15 am (morning trip) or 2:15 pm (afternoon trip). If you are running late you may catch us at Town Park. Due to the many activities this weekend we must try to maintain a somewhat rigid schedule.

Emergency & Information Contact that morning:
Adventure Center: 252-328-1577, Brad Beggs, Assistant Director for Adventure Programs or e-mail adventure@ecu.edu . The Adventure Center will be open at 7:30 am for final trip preparation.
Who is eligible: Students and their family members.
Registration: Interested individuals must pre-register for any of the three trips. The cost is $12 per person for each trip. Enrollment will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis and full payment is necessary to reserve a place in the trips. A minimum enrollment will also be necessary to offer the trips. Early registration is encouraged since both morning trips filled up quickly in 2008. The Saturday afternoon trip is being offered for the first time.
What to Bring: At least one, preferably two, 1-Liter water bottle(s), snack, sunscreen
How to dress: Dress for getting wet, even though it’s unlikely you will get fully immersed. Your feet will get wet and probably muddy. There is some danger of stepping on glass or other sharp objects so fully protective footwear is required (old tennis or running shoes are perfect.). If the day is sunny you may want to wear a hat. Sunscreen is recommended.

What the Adventure Program provides:
All boats, PFD's, and paddles will be transported to and from the river for you. All participants will be required to wear their PFD (Life Jacket) at all times while on the water. A first aid kit will be carried on the water.
The trip will be led by qualified Adventure Program staff and possibly some staff in training. A short safety briefing will be given prior to the trip. We may ask for written evaluations of the trip at the end in order to get feedback for improving the trip for next year.
Goals and Expectations for the trip:
This trip is intended to be an experience for family members to enjoy a low risk adventure challenge together. Basic canoeing techniques will be taught and coaching will occur on the water as needed or requested, but is not the first intention for the trip. The trip has only flat water, but the speed of the water may impact the difficulty of the paddling. Heavy local rains can raise the river level which will offer a somewhat different experience than if the river were low. Low flows are normal for this time of year, but higher flows may occur. Extremely high flows may require cancellation of the trip for safety reasons. Both Canoes and Sit-On-Top Kayaks (single) will be available. We expect there to be two people in each canoe, and one or two people in sea kayaks. Reservations for boat types cannot be made but every attempt will be made to honor requests. Due to the high number of participants enrolled we hope that people will be flexible and adaptable to the situation.

Space and Limitations
There is limited space on each of the trips (20 seats maximum). All participants must be comfortable on the water and wear a life jacket.
