Fall 2009 Clinics

Bike Handling Course 101

If you want to bike more, but feel like you need a little help, this course is for you. The League of American Bicyclists Traffic Skills 101 gives cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills, and crash avoidance techniques, and includes a student manual.

Recommended for adults and teens above age fourteen, this fast-paced, nine-hour course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling. Most importantly, you'll learn how to feel comfortable and have fun on a bike, no matter where you go! Friday evening, we'll be in the classroom; on Saturday we'll be working outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a water bottle.

Date: Friday, Dec. 11, 6-9pm and Saturday Dec. 12th 9am-4pm (12-1pm lunch break)

Location: Student Recreation Center Classroom

Cost: $25, includes manual and materials

To signup, email Brad Beggs at adventure@ecu.edu  or Brian Glover at gloverb@ecu.edu, or call 252-328-6387. A registration form may be faxed to 252-328-6562 c/o Dena Olo.

Weekly Learn to Climb/Belay Clinics

Sure, you have climbed the wall but have you climbed a taped route? Not able to climb the route you want? In this weekly free clinic our affable staff will provide you with tricks and pointers for smooth, graceful, and strong climbing.

Often it is not strength which limits a climbers' potential but poor technique. Climbing is thought of as 1/3 mental; 1/3 physical; 1/3 technique. On an on going basis, we will help you get better. As you learn better climbing technique, our staff can also each teach you how to belay without needing our staff so you and your friend can climb together.

No experience needed; includes equipment. Walk-ins welcome.

Date: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Time: 7pm
Location: SRC Adventure Center Climbing Wall
Cost: FREE!!!
