Fall 2009 Friday Floats Due to the popularity of our spring semester Final Friday Floats, we’ve added more trips for the fall. Join a handful of other paddlers on 5 different Friday afternoons this fall; we’ll paddle the shorter water trails around the Greenville/Little Washington, NC area. One Friday may involve us paddling past the historic waterfront of Little Washington, on another we will paddle up the mangrove woven Cherry Run or down the Tar. Each Friday Float will showcase a different paddling option for 3 hours of on water paddling.
Cost: $10 for students/members. $15 for non-members. Trip includes equipment, transportation, and instruction. No experience needed.
Meet at 2pm in the Adventure Center and seek to be back around 6pm.
Dates: September 18th; October 2nd; October 16th; October 30th; November 13th.
No pre-trip meeting or signup by date.

Kayak Yoga at the Beach, Sunday, September 20th The rhythmic pounding of the surf, the gentle bobbing of the sea kayak in the sound, flowing from down-dog to plank to up-dog. This trip combines the flow of yoga with the remoteness a sea kayak provides by taking us to the empty beaches of Bear Island, NC in the Outerbanks. We’ll paddle about 3 miles to the island, and spend a part of the day doing yoga and relaxing on the beach before we venture back down the paddle trail.
Cost: $45 for students/members. $55 for non-members. Trip includes equipment, transportation, and instruction.
No experience needed. Mandatory pre-trip meeting

NC Big Sweep River Clean Up, Saturday, October 3rd Though rivers are no longer believed to be a dumping ground for refuse, during intense flooding or rain, trash eventually makes its way into our important recreational and ecological resource. Nothing like seeing soda cans, trash bags and other debris as we try to enjoy a beautiful environment.
Join the Adventure Program and 237 other volunteers to Sweep Up the Tar River. Don’t let the Tar River become a waste land, full of trash rather than fish. During the day we’ll amble down a short section picking up trash along the shores via canoe.
Cost: FREE to all. Trip includes equipment, transportation, and instruction.
No experience needed. Mandatory pre-trip meeting.

Rock Climbing #1 and #2, Sunday, October 4th and 25th You’ve climbed indoor wall, attended the climbing clinics or just love to climb trees. These trips are for you. Regardless if you’ve no climbing experience or are moving on to an intermediate level, we can tailor these two trips to your climbing level. All climbers of beginner through intermediate levels are encouraged to join our instruction crew. We’ll travel up to airy heights of Pilot Mountain, where we will spend day reaching new heights.
Cost: $40 for students/members. $50 for non-members. Includes equipment, transportation, and instruction.
No experience required. Mandatory pre-trip meeting.

Whitewater Kayak Primer, Sunday, October 14th Catch the waves, feel the splash, move from eddy to eddy, ride the drops! We’ve got the boats, gear, and the instructors. We may go the Haw, Eno, or Cape Fear Rivers for a one-day trip. No shouting guides, no rubber bumpers- just you and your own boat. No experience? No problem. Trips are geared for beginners. We teach the basic skills, the rest is up to you. If you have solid kayak skills and want to advance, we can tailor this trip to your ability level. By making hard moves on easy water, you can dial your skills with lower consequence then trying to make easy moves on hard water.
Cost: $40 for students/members. $50 for non-members and includes equipment, transportation, and instruction. Pre-trip meeting and 1 kayak roll session are mandatory. Kayak roll sessions are held every Tuesday through the semester.

Fall Break Trip: Carolina Mountains Backpacking, Saturday-Tuesday October 10th-13th Venture west to the Shining Rock Wilderness Area for 4 days of backpacking in remote old mountain forest. With everything we need for 4 days of self-sufficient living, we’ll walk along ridge crests, descend down hills along clear running creeks and camp below tall pine trees. Along the way, our backpacking staff will teach you how to hike, wear a backpack comfortably, cook on camp stoves and sleep warmly and soundly in a tent as the night creatures serenade you to sleep.
No experience is required but a sturdy pair of tennis shoes, hiking shoes or hiking boots is required.
Cost: $125 for students/members. $150 for non-members and includes equipment, transportation, camping, food, and instruction.
Pre-trip meeting is mandatory.

Fall Break Trip: Sea Kayaking the Outerbanks, Saturday-Tuesday October 10th-13th The Outerbanks is a mecca of southeast paddling with shallow black water trails through mangrove swamps, open meandering streams of the White Oak River to the open waters of the sound. With a basecamp in the comfortable campground in the Croatan National Forest, we will spend each day kayaking in a new area, ranging from Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge, Shackledord Banks Island, White Oak River or other areas. Some days will also involve yoga, taught by your trip leader. At night we can gather around the camp fire for stories, singing and socializing, or simply star gazing.
No experience is required but some comfort in water is required.
Cost: $120 for students/members. $145 for non-members and includes equipment, transportation, camping, food, and instruction.
Pre-trip meeting is mandatory.

Wilderness First Aid Course, Saturday & Sunday, Nov 14th & 15th The sign-up deadline is Tuesday, November 10th.
If you plan to spend time in the backcountry you need to be prepared. Fast paced and hands-on, this two day course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel and work in the outdoors. This emergency response training includes patient assessment, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries, splinting, and a variety of other topics. Learn how to care for yourself and your friends with non-standard equipment. Don’t get rescued - be your rescue.
This course is taught by the professionals from Landmark Learning on campus with realistic hands on scenarios in-between classroom sessions. Participants who successful pass the course will receive a nationally recognized certification.
No experience needed. Two days, 8 hours each day.
Cost: $170 for students/members. $200 for ECU non-members and members of the Greenville Outdoor Adventure Club. $250 for the general public. No Pre-trip meeting.
