Attack the Atlantic!
Date February 16th– May 1st
Purpose
Attack the Atlantic is a 11 – week incentive program created to promote a healthy lifestyle through aquatic fitness. The program will target the East Carolina University community, and take place at the Student Recreation Center. This program is open to all SRC members.
Registration
Each person must complete and submit a registration form before starting this program. Registration can be completed and participation can begin at any time during the program. Registration forms can be found at the SRC customer service desk, main office or with a lifeguard.
Goal
The Atlantic Ocean is approximately 3500 miles from New York City to Paris, France. The challenge is to swim in 3 sections across the Atlantic Ocean. Section 1 will consist of 1,000 miles. Section 2 will consist of 1,200 miles. Section 3 will consist of 1,300 miles. Swimming across the Atlantic is challenging due to weather, sea creatures and ships that might be passing.
How to earn miles
- Every lap you swim will count as a 5 miles. A lap is defined as two 25 yard lengths of the pool. (down and back)
- Participants are limited to receiving credit for a maximum of 30 laps per day.
- Each swimmer will be responsible for logging his/her laps. Logging laps can be completed by reporting the numbers of laps you have swam, with the date, by your name in the “Attack the Atlantic” clipboard at the lifeguard station.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for each section you finish in the Attack the Atlantic Challenge.
