Tai Chi Club Sports

Tai Chi Chuan is an internal Chinese martial art often practiced for health reasons. Tai chi is typically practiced for a variety of reasons: its soft martial techniques, demonstration competitions, health and longevity. Consequently, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims. Some of tai chi chuan's training forms are well known to Westerners as the slow motion routines that groups of people practice together every morning in parks around the world, particularly in China.

The ECU Tai Chi Chuan Club has been active since 2000.Our members come from different nationalities, ages, interests and backgrounds. Therefore, our group focuses on melding a variety of forms to support the club.

We welcome you participate in our club, but we want to make you aware of some restrictions mandated by the university before you start.
  •       You must be associated with the university by being a student, alumni, faculty or staff.
  •       If you are alumni, faculty or staff, you must either join the Student Recreation Center or pay a fee to attend.

The other hurdle for membership is that we do not meet very often and that limits our ability to work with us. The 2008-09 calendar is:

  •       Monday – Wednesday- Friday 7:00 am to 7:50  email: weaverch@ecu.edu
  •       Tuesday: 7:00 to 7:50 email: SALSTROMJ@ecu.edu
  •       Saturday: 9:30 to 11:00 email: LIH@ecu.edu
