The Dean of Students Office issues University-excused absences according to the excused absence policy in the ECU Undergraduate Catalog.  This includes the following reasons, ALL OF WHICH REQUIRE SUFFICIENT DOCUMENTATION:

·      DEATH of an IMMEDIATE family member

·      Participation in an AUTHORIZED activity as an OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE of the University

·      CRISISsituation that is DOCUMENTED and APPROVED by the Dean of Students Office

ECU does NOT issue University-excused absences for reasons including, but not limited to, the following:

·      ILLNESS or any other MEDICAL or PSYCHOLOGICAL situation, including hospitalizations, doctor visits, etc.

·      COURT APPEARANCES – unless you are a CRIME VICTIM see crisis above OR you are under SUBPOENA to testify as a witness in a trial (Documentation is required).

·      FUNERALS for EXTENDED family members (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) and people not related to you.

·      Other events such as WEDDINGS, INTERVIEWS, CAR TROUBLE, TRIPS, VISITING SICK RELATIVES/FRIENDS, WORK, WEATHER, etc.
