Standards of Excellence Points

January 2008 until December 2008

The Standards of Excellence program will be used to evaluate chapters on their performance in scholarship, community service, risk management, leadership, and educational programs.  Chapters will be evaluated on a point system.  All chapters are eligible to receive points.  While the scholarship points will be based upon grades, for service/philanthropy, educational, and risk management points you must turn in the forms that are provided by the Office of Greek Life!  These forms must be turned in at the end of each month for them to count!  I will have a score sheet up on the web that everyone can see how they are doing regarding points.

Standards of Excellence GOLD award:  will be given to those Chapters that accumulate 240 total points are above with 50 points coming from scholarship

Standards of Excellence PURPLE award:  will be given to those Chapters that accumulate 220 to 239 total points with 50 points coming from scholarship

Below are the areas that will be worth points

  1. Scholarship:  Chapters will be evaluated each semester based upon the GPA that the chapter has at the end of that semester.   If the chapter is at a 2.7 GPA or better: 25 pts.

If you submit a written academic success program for initiated and new members and demonstrate how the plan is being implemented, you can receive 20 pts.  (See Greek Awards Application)

  1. Community Service/Philanthropy (must turn in Service/Philanthropy formwith verification):  Community Service and Philanthropies are not the same.  Philanthropy events raise money for a cause or require donations of blood or other items and do not count as community service and will be separate from community service hours total..  You must turn in the Community Service/Philanthropy Report form from the Office of Greek Life and return after your complete any community service or complete a philanthropic event.  You also must attach with that form some sort of verification from the organization that benefited from your philanthropy or service.  Example would be a canceled check or letter from the organization thanking you for your time and money.
    • Points will be given in regards to how many members participated X the number of hours donated.  If  80 to 100 percent of your total membership participated in a service project or philanthropic endeavor (this includes an ongoing service project):  20 pts.
    • Points will be given in regards to members that do service through the Volunteer and Learning Center:  This must be documented through there office, therefore, your members must be registered.  You must still turn in a Philanthropy/Service form.  If 80 to 100 percent, of your total membership does some serve learning through the center the chapter will receive 20 pts.
    • If you donate clothes, toys, money, or canned food this still must be verified:  10 points for donations
    • If you apply for the Community Service/Philanthropy award based on a specific service or philanthropy project your chapter participated in, you will receive 10 points.  (See Greek Awards application)

  1. Risk Management (must turn in Educational programming form):  The chapter will be evaluated on attendance of their Executive Officers at each semesters Risk Management program along with risk management programs that the chapter does for their entire chapter.

·         The chapter sponsors or attends risk management related programs with at least 80% attendance at each program. In order for these programs to count for points someone outside of your chapter must be the presenter.  (Examples of such programs include:  alcohol/drug issues, hazing issues, fire safety, crisis management, rape/sexual assault awareness) 20 points

·         If your chapter is sanctioned for any risk management violations, your chapter can not receive any points in this category for this year.

  1. Educational Programming (must turn in Educational Programming form):  Chapters should attend  at least six educational workshops throughout the school year.   Eighty percent of the chapter is required to attend these events in order to receive points.  These events can be ones that the Office of Greek Life has sponsored or the Councils has sponsored or ones that your chapter sets up which should be on topics such as academic success programs, hazing, nutrition/health, sexual assault, and self-esteem. Someone from your chapter can not be the person that was the speaker for the program unless it is a National program (then document that).  You must fill out an Educational  Program Form from the Office of Greek Life once your chapter has completed the educational program whether the chapter sponsored the program or the Office of Greek Life this form also has to have the signature of the speaker that verifies that 80 percent of the membership was in attendance and that they did the program.  Each Educational program is worth 10 points a piece.  Any additional programs over the six counts as 5 points a piece.  If you apply for the Educational programming award, you will also receive 10 points.  (See Greek Leadership Awards packet)
