National Student Employment Week

April 14-18, 2008

Please join the Student Employment Office in honoring our dedicated student workers during National Student Employment Week, April 14-18, 2008. This is a great time to show recognition and appreciation for the 3,500 plus students who devote many hours each week and make significant contributions to our campus community.

Several events and promotions will be offered throughout the week, including the announcement of our 1^st annual Student Employee of the Year award winner, beverage specials from Campus Dining and 25% off all regular priced apparel and gift items from Dowdy Student Stores.

The Student Employment Office will offer information sessions about student employment topics for both employers and students. Supervisors and campus departments are encouraged to show appreciation for their student employees throughout the week. Here are a few suggestions and further details;

Events

Student Employment General Q&A Session (for Faculty/Staff)
This is your opportunity to ask questions on any student employment related topic (ex. I-9 forms, EPAF/Banner HR, how to post jobs, rules and regulations, etc…).

Student Employment General Q&A Session (for Students)

SEOTY Awards reception (by invitation only)
The winner and runner-up’s for our 1^st annual Student Employee of the Year award will be announced and all nominees will be recognized.

Promotions & Recognition Ideas

Recognize student employees with “ Thank You Grams” in The East Carolinian on Apr 15 and 17. There is a $3 charge for 25 words or less ($.05 will be charged for each additional word). Cash and Inter-departmental Transfers will be accepted. Thank you Grams must be submitted to TEC by April 10.
Buy an ECU T-shirt, hat, or other memorabilia for the student. (Reminder: Dowdy Student Stores will offer 25% off regular priced apparel and gift items during the week.)
Campus Dining will offer $.50 cents off beverage of choice at all Java City locations to student employees. Must have coupon. Coupons will be mailed to each student’s campus work address.
Send a card or e-card thanking them for a job well done!
Give a pat on the back, handshake, and a simple and sincere “Thank You!”
Have a departmental ice cream social, party or luncheon for your students.
Surprise students with beverages and cookies or other refreshments.
Leave a flower, balloon, candy, or a gift certificate to a local restaurant at the students work area.
Make care packages for student employees during this week
Offer to write a letter of recommendation for them.
Make a banner and hang it in your office that could read, “Thank You Student Employees” or “Our Student Employees Rock!”
