Door Decorating Contest! We could tell you put a LOT of hard work to create your beautiful doors. It was such a hard decision for us! We know the students really appreciated your efforts! The student workers in each participating department received a prize, compliments of Overtons!

Please join the Student Employment Office in honoring our dedicated student workers during National Student Employment Week, April 13-17, 2009. This is a great time to show recognition and appreciation for the 4,000 plus students who devote many hours each week and make significant contributions to our campus community.
Several events and promotions will be offered throughout the week, including; our 2nd annual Student Employee of the Year Awards, our 1st annual Supervisor of the Year Awards, the Hire-a-Pirate Summer & Fall Job Fair, several prize drawings and more. Please check this site often for further updates.
Supervisors and campus departments are encouraged to show appreciation for their student employees throughout the week. Here are a few suggestions and details;
Promotions & Recognition Ideas
- Recognize student employees with “Thank You Grams” in The East Carolinian on Apr 14 and 16. There is a $3 charge for 25 words or less ($.05 will be charged for each additional word). Thank you Grams must be submitted to TEC by April 8 along with payment (Cash and Inter-departmental Transfers will be accepted).
- Participate in the campus door decorating contest through SEO - decorate your department’s door to show your appreciation for your student workers. Be creative and have fun – it may win you a prize!
- Buy an ECU T-shirt, hat, or other memorabilia for the student. (Dowdy Student Stores will offer 25% off regular priced apparel and gift items during the week.)
- Send a card or e-card thanking them for a job well done!
- Give a pat on the back, handshake, and a simple and sincere “Thank You!”
- Have a departmental ice cream social, party or luncheon for your students.
- Surprise students with beverages and cookies or other refreshments.
- Leave a flower, balloon, candy, or a gift certificate to a local restaurant at the students work area.
- Make care packages for student employees during this week
- Offer to write a letter of recommendation for them.
- Make a banner and hang it in your office that could read, “Thank You Student Employees” or “Our Student Employees Rock!”
Events
All Week
Departments are encouraged to show their appreciation to their student employees. A prize will be randomly awarded each day to the winner of the daily student drawing. Students can enter the drawing by stopping by the SEO Open House.

SEO Open House – faculty, students and staff are invited to learn what the Student Employment Office has to offer, tour their office space and help celebrate their 2nd anniversary with cake and ice cream, 2:00-4:00 p.m. in Fletcher Residence Hall. Students who stop by can enter their name into a daily drawing for prizes, which will take place throughout the week.

Hire a Pirate Summer & Fall job fair (1-4 p.m. in Mendenhall Social Room) This is a great opportunity for campus departments and local employers to hire ECU students seeking summer employment and part-time jobs when they return for fall 2009 classes.

SEOTY & SOTY Awards Banquet (by invitation only). The winners will be announced and all nominators and nominees for Student Employee of the Year and Supervisor of the Year will be recognized.

Door decorating contest – SEO will award a prize to the campus department who has the best door decorations celebrating student employment week. Be creative and have fun with it!
How do we enter? Contact the Student Employment Office at 737-4473 or
hireapirate@ecu.edu and let us know your department would like to enter the door decorating contest. Be ready to share the name and phone number of a designated contact person for your department and tell us where we can find your decorated door. Please enter by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009.
