14 Cultural Cuisine night. Come and enjoy samples of great food from local vendors. This event will highlight various customs related to how we prepare and enjoy food. **5 (New) “Race, Rap, Reality, and Technology” featuring Chuck D

Best known as leader and co-founder of legendary rap group Public Enemy, Chuck D redefined rap music and Hip Hop culture with the release of Public Enemy's explosive debut album, Yo Bum Rush TheShow, in 1987.  Most recently, the media has anointed Chuck as the spokesperson and major proponent of music on the Internet. In September 1999, he launched Rapstation.com. The site boasts a TV and radio station with original programming, a slew of Hip Hop's most prominent DJs, celebrity interviews, free MP3 downloads, social commentary, current events, and regular features dedicated to empowering rap artists with the knowledge to turn their craft into a viable living.

**6 (New) – ICSA Social Justice Institute:  speaker series on topics of interest related to social justice in our country.  Featured guest will be Mr. Tim Wise, author and lecturer who is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the United States.  Wise has provided anti-racism training to teachers nationwide, and has served in adjunct faculty positions at Smith College in Massachusetts and the St. Poynter Institute in Florida.  His writings are taught at hundreds of colleges and have appeared in dozens of popular and professional journals.

8Honors Program

16-18 Cultural Bus Trip to Washington DC!

Discover DC, in its third year, will provide students an opportunity to travel to the capital city to visit some of the nation’s cultural and educational sites, such as the Smithsonian, the Holocaust Museum, the Georgetown area, and other sites.  Contact the LWCC office for additional information and to reserve a space!  Call 328-6495 for more information

 

31Ebony Fashion Fair

The 48th Ebony Fashion Fair tour will visit the campus of ECU bringing a high caliber, professional array of fashions from around the world.  Tickets for the event will go on sale September 1, 2005 at the Central Ticket office in the Mendenhall Student Center.  Show begins at 7:00 p.m.  For ticket information, contact their office at 1-800-ECU-ARTS or 252-328-4788; or contact the Cultural Center staff at 252-328-6495.
