Orientation Programs

Discover ECU

The Discover ECU Orientation program is designed to assist students with the transition to East Carolina University. During the two days you will take placement tests (if necessary), meet with an advisor, register for classes, discover resources available to you on campus, learn about student organizations, get your 1 Card (student ID), meet new friends, and HAVE FUN! You will also meet ECU staff, faculty, and an Orientation Assistant--an upper class student who can answer all your questions about life at ECU. All new students are also encouraged to attend Explore ECU in August (see below).

Family Orientation

We encourage family members to attend orientation at the same time as their student! The Discover ECU family program runs concurrently with the student program. Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about ECU and the resources available to their student. Topics such as:  helping students through their first year of college, applying for financial aid, life on campus, information about housing and meal plans, health services, and academic policies will be discussed and many more. Family members and students will be separated for much of the day; however they will be able to get together for some meals and evening activities and unfortunately, we cannot provide housing for parents or family members, or be responsible for childcare. Transfer Orientation

We recognize the needs of transfer students and therefore offer a Transfer Orientation program for students with more than 30 transferable hours of the time of admissions. Transfer students with less than 30 hours at the time they were admitted should attend a Discover ECU new student session. Transfer students will receive a separate mailing in May. During the Transfer Orientation, you will have the opportunity to get your ECU 1 Card (student ID), take necessary placement tests, meet with your advisor, and register for fall classes.Transfer students are also encouraged to attend the Explore ECU program in August.

Explore ECU

Explore ECU is the second part of Orientation that will occur in August, just before classes start. Explore ECU will continue to add to your knowledge of ECU and will have exciting programs that will help you learn ECU traditions, how to get around on the ECU transit system, help you make even more friends, and allow you to have fun before classes start.
