Allergy Clinic
For students on allergy immunotherapy, Student Health Service provides an allergy clinic to administer your regularly scheduled allergy medications according to your allergist instructions. The allergy medication (Antigens) and instructions on administration from a referring health care provider must be provided by the student. Appointments for injections are scheduled around class times and may be made by calling the appointment desk (252) 328-6841. The antigens are kept at Student Health Service and administered by an allergy nurse according to your allergist instructions.
In Order for Student Health to Administer Your Allergy Injections
- Contact your allergist and request them to provide you with instructions in order for Student Health Service to administer your allergy injections.
- Schedule an appointment by calling the appointment desk at (252) 328-6841
- At your appointment time register at the front desk. Have your allergy injection vaccine with you for administration and the instructions from your allergist. (We can store your allergy medication at Student Health Service for your own personal use- You may drop off the medication at an earlier date before your scheduled appointment time for storage).
- You may make set appointments by the week, month, or semester after your first initial visit with the allergy nurse and according to your allergist instructions.
Instructions for students for Allergy Injections
- Avoid wearing tight sleeves on day of injection
- Avoid Strenuous exercise and use of alcohol at least 6 hours after injection
- Student Health Service does not mix vaccine or Epinephrine in the same syringe. (Allergist is responsible for premix vials)
- Student is responsible for informing Student Health Service of new medications.
- Students on wasp or bee vaccine must be well adjusted and on a maintenance dose. Student Health Service will not administer first time use or first time dose changes of wasp or bee vaccine.
- Student must wait 30 minutes after injection in order for the Allergy Nurse to check the injection site and note local skin reactions.
- The student is responsible for ordering their allergy serum when needed and for bringing it to Student Health Service for storage.
