Leadership Opportunities

The VSLC welcomes passionate and committed student leaders to pursue and raise awareness about positive social change by engaging their peers in service.

Our student leaders, volunteers, and service-learning students drive our programs, and you can be a part of that mission too.  Below are some overarching categories of student involvement through the VSLC; read through them and see where you think you might fit in.

Volunteers/Service-Learning Students: Last year, 7,000 students participated in service while at ECU, totaling more than 100,000 hours of service!  The VSLC is a great place to find programs, events, or other opportunities to engage in service.  Potential volunteers are welcome to visit our office in Old Cafeteria Complex 1604—this is a great way to start getting involved!

Program Coordinators: Coordinators are responsible for running a specific service program, event, alternative break trip, etc. Their responsibilities include recruiting/training volunteers and working with their service site/community partner. They serve as the go-to people for connecting ECU students with specific service projects that run through the VSLC.  Occasionally, when funds are available, these are paid leadership positions.

Interns: VSLC will periodically host interns and practicum students from a variety of academic programs around campus (including, but not limited to, counselor education, child development and family relations, higher education, sociology, and nutrition).  Contact the VSLC staff to learn more about whether internship opportunities are currently available.  Interns are typically not paid because they are receiving course credit for their work.

Professional Staff: The VSLC professional staff advises and provides oversight for all student-led programs.  Students are guided by the VSLC professional staff and can seek help and advice whenever needed.
