Student Leadership Day
Wednesday, August 15, 2007 9am

This one day experience brings ECU student leaders together to explore and discuss best practices in leadership and shared governance.  Student Affairs professionals will work with the elected leaders of the Student Government Association, the Greek Governing Boards, the Student Media officers, and the officers from the Student Union Programming Board to help student leaders expand their skill in leading other student leaders.

Intercultural Student Leaders Symposium

Friday, August 17, 9am, Bate Rooms 1030 & 1032

The Intercultural Student Leaders Symposium is designed to give minority student leaders tools, strategies, and skills that will further enhance their abilities to lead.  The one day leadership event features campus professionals, organization leaders and advisors, and staff.  Students will participate in informational sessions, workshops, and roundtable discussions.  The Symposium will highlight the role of the Intercultural Student Senate – the umbrella organization for each of the groups involved in the Symposium.

LWCC Orientation

The Ledonia Wright Cultural Center Orientation is designed to assist African American, American Indian, Hispanic/Latino/a and other new students from historically underserved populations with their transition to East Carolina. Small group sessions include discussion on academic support services, counseling services, student activities, and cultural support organizations; as well as opportunities to meet, faculty and student leaders.

Cookout
& Concert on the Brickyard

Saturday, August 18, Mendenhall Student Center Brickyard.

A big cookout with at least a thousand new friends.  Freshmen and Transfer students eat free with ECU ID.  If your family’s still in town, bring them along; they can eat for $5 per person.

Cookout 5-7pm & Concert 6-11:30pm

Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and non-stop music by some of the best bands and solo artists touring today.

Honors Induction Ceremony

Saturday, August 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m., MSC Great Rooms

Reception: MSC 244

 

The Honors Induction Ceremony will recognize all new in-coming Freshmen Honors Students.  Each student will receive an Honors pin and tee-shirt.  

Parents are invited.  A reception with refreshments will follow immediately after the ceremony in MSC 244.

Late Night at Mendenhall – featuring Late Night Art Institute
Saturday, August 18,  Mendenhall Student Center 7pm – 2am

Free bowling, billiards, movies, munchies, and more including the Late Night Art Institute.

If you want to make art but don’t have the space and place to do it, the Art Institute Series is for you.  Non-Art majors are invited to sign up for various art workshops guided by expert artists.  The workshops will be offered from 8pm-11pm at Mendenhall Student Center on selected Saturdays.  Art supplies will be provided (excluding cameras for photography). Light refreshments will be provided. 

 

The featured workshop for August 18 is Book Arts.  Additional workshops will include:

August 25th: Jazz Dance

September 1st: Jewelry Making

September 8th: Photography

September 22nd: Painting

Limit of 15 students per workshop. Students may pick up registration forms at the front desk of the Joyner Library, Mendenhall Student Center, or Student Recreation Center.  Registration forms can be returned to MSC 236 or dropped in campus mail.

College of Business Welcome Hoopla!
Sunday, August 19, 2007, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Plaza behind Bate and the Science and Technology Building.  Rain location 1st Floor Bate Building

 

First year and transfer students who have declared Business as their intended

major are invited to lunch to meet the faculty and fellow students.  Business

students will receieve mailed invitations.
