Construction Management Undergraduate Scholarships

Various scholarships are available to students pursuing the Construction Management degree at East Carolina University.  Generally, students apply for State/National scholarships in the fall semester and Local / Regional scholarships in the spring semester.  Awards are made for the next academic year beginning with fall. 

Although the criteria for awards vary with each scholarship, most require students to achieve an overall GPA of 2.5 or better.  Click on the scholarship title to see the descriptions and specific requirements of each scholarship.  Note! Over $26,000 in scholarship money was awarded for the 2014-2015 school year. Congratulations to all of our recipients!

Local / Regional Scholarships - Administered Internally

Barnhill Construction Scholarship

  • Full-time undergraduate students in the Department of Construction Management
  • Based on academic ability, academic major, and community involvement
  • First preference will be given to qualified candidates from Eastern North Carolina
H.A Butch Hardy (Oldcastle) Scholarship - $1,000
  • Awarded to a NC resident, Construction Management major. 
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript, two evaluators' rating sheets

Home Builders Supply Company/ W. G. Blount Scholarship

  • Awarded each spring to a rising senior who is the top student in the Department of Construction Management based upon academic ability, academic major and other criteria determined by the Committee
  • Given these specifications, the Department Scholarship Committee may not need an application. They need to see who has the highest GPA
  • If there is more than one student with same GPA, the Committee may want the students to write an essay or have some other way to differentiate who is selected

Mark Tipton/Pitt County-Greenville Home Builders - $1,000

  • Rising Junior or Senior in CMGT
  • Minimum of 3.0 overall GPA
  • 12 semester hours in CMGT course work
  • Financial need
  • Preference given, but not limited to, applicant expressing an interest in residential construction and residing in Pitt County
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript and two evaluators’ rating sheets

Professional Construction Estimators Association - Coastal Plains Chapter 8 - $1,000

  • Rising Junior or Senior in Construction
  • 2.75 GPA overall and in major
  • Completed 12 semester hours in CMGT course work
  • Financial need and any other criteria determined appropriate
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript, two evaluators' rating sheets

Professional Construction Estimators Association - Triangle Area Chapter 3 - $1,500

  • Rising Junior or Senior in Construction
  • 2.75 GPA overall and in major
  • Completed 12 semester hours in CMGT course work
  • Evidence of leadership capability and outstanding character
  • Commitment to construction profession
  • Financial need
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript, two evaluators' rating sheets
  • Service Roofing and Sheet Metal Company - $1,000
  • Rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior enrolled full-time in construction management
  • 3.0 overall GPA
  • Demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in construction management
  • Any other criteria determined appropriate by the selection committee.
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript, and two evaluators' rating sheets.

Rick Judson/NCHBA/National Housing Endowment Residential Construction Scholarship

  • NC resident
  • Construction Management Major with Residential Concentration preferred
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript and two evaluator's rating sheets


Southern Piping Scholarship - $2,500 to each student for one year

  • Full-time rising junior or a 2-semester senior in the Department of Construction Management
  • Based on academic ability, academic major, and community involvement
  • Two scholarships of equal amounts be awarded annually (one to a rising junior and one to a rising senior)
  • T. A. Loving Company - $1,500
  • Rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior enrolled full-time in construction management
  • 3.0 overall GPA
  • Demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in construction management
  • Any other criteria determined appropriate by the selection committee.
  • Requires cover letter, application, official transcript, and two evaluators' rating sheets

Ready Mix Concrete Company Scholarship - $500

  • Rising Junior or two-semester Senior enrolled full-time in construction management
  • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
  • The selection shall be based on:
  • Academic ability
  • Demonstrated commitment to the study of and career in Construction Management
  • Any other criteria determined appropriate by the selection committee.
  • Requires cover letter, complete application, official transcript, and two evaluators' rating sheets

ACI Concrete Research and Education Foundation Peter D. Courtois Concrete Construction Scholarships - $1,000

  • Open to Juniors
  • Typical deadline is January

The Society of American Military Engineers - $500

  • Open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Deadline is February 1

Associated Builders and Contractors Construction Education Foundation (CEF) Scholarship - $2,500

  • Open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Typical deadline is June

Associated General Contractors Education & Research Foundation - $2,000 award (renewable up to $8,000)

  • Open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Typical deadline is November

Beazer Homes Scholarship - $3,000 award ($1,500 per semester)

  • Open to full-time students pursuing an academic program applicable to positions with Beazer Homes
  • Students must maintain full-time student status during the scholarship period
  • Maintain a minimum of 2.5 out of 4.0 overall GPA and 3.0 out of 4.0 within the major
  • Application deadlines typically in October and February
  • Applications available outside CMGT Office

Centex Homes "Build Your Future" Scholarship - $2,500 award (renewable)

  • Open to full-time freshmen, sophomores, and juniors studying in a housing related program
  • Includes paid internship
  • Typical deadline is April

Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) Southeast Chapter Student Scholarship - $1,000

  • Open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Typical deadline is November

National Housing Endowment
Each year the National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, provides over $300,000 in scholarship dollars to students studying in construction related programs.  We currently administer four programs that are available annually with primary focus going to students with a demonstrated interest in residential construction management.

National Association of Women in Construction Founders' Scholarship Foundation - $500 - $2,000 (renewable)

  • Open to full-time freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Typical deadline is February

National Professional Construction Estimators Ted G. Wilson Memorial Scholarship - $1,500

  • Open to high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors pursuing a construction degree
  • Must be a resident of or attending an university in NC, SC, VA or GA
  • Typical deadline is March

North Carolina Educational Facility Planners (NCEFP) - Minimum $1,000 award

  • Open to full-time North Carolina sophomore, juniors, seniors and Graduate students enrolled in a facilities-related program in a member institution of the University of North Carolina;
  • Requires NC residence
  • Deadline is March

Project Management Institute Educational Foundation - $2,000

  • Several scholarships available
  • Typical deadline is February

AACE Competitive Scholarship Program - $1,500 - $4,000 awards

  • Awarding scholarships to deserving students pursuing degrees in engineering, construction management, building construction, computer sciences, business, quality surveying, information technology and other fields related to cost and management careers
  • The application period is September 1 - October 15 each year.
  • Students' scores are based on three criteria:
    • Grade point average
    • Extracurricular activities and awards
    • A short essay

Construction Professionals Network Scholarship - Ranging from $500 - $10,000 awards
The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to individuals pursuing education through our various scholarship funds. These funds have been established by generous donors, including individuals, families, organizations, and corporations from our community. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000 are available for qualified students. Each scholarship has unique requirements.

Recipients are selected on a competitive basis, considering academic and non-academic factors and demonstrated financial need. Many of the funds target students from specific areas of interest to the donor, including successful performance in high school, high school attended, and academic or career focus.
