- Congratulations to Dr. Evelyn Brown, Dr. Gene Dixon, Dr. Ed Howard and Karen De Urquidi on their award of a $599,894 S-Stem grant from NSF titled "Expanding Engineering in Eastern North Carolina." The award is effective May 15, 2011 and expires April 30, 2016.
- On Saturday, February 12, 2011, ECU engineering faculty members Dr. Rick Williams and Dr. Ricky Castles assisted with the North Carolina Regional Science Olympiad Tournament involving 600 middle and high school students competing from 25 schools across seven northeastern North Carolina counties. Dr. Rick Williams led the "Mission Possible" event while Dr. Ricky Castles managed the "Battery Buggy" event. The battery buggy event involved middle school students who worked in teams of two to construct a battery powered car and navigate that car from a fixed beginning location around a bucket to a fixed ending point. Prior to the start of the event the competitors submitted their cars for impounding and inspection which ensured each car was within regulation size and did not have any illegal equipment onboard. Scoring of the event was based both on the accuracy of the stopping point of the car relative to the prescribed stopping point and the speed of the vehicle. Each team had an opportunity to take two trials. Thank you to ECU Engineering students and Robotics Club members Ben Sheridan, Jerry Koontz, and Paul Cox who assisted with inspections, timing, and measuring of distances.
- Congratulations to Dr. Jianchu "Jason" Yao: 2010-2011 ECU Scholar-Teacher Award recipient.
