Network Performance Laboratory

Network Performance Lab Mission Statement and Goals

The College of Technology Systems Network Performance Laboratory's (NPL) mission is to facilitate student learning through hands-on network performance testing while making valuable contributions to the field of Information Technology.

Our goal is to provide students with experience in test engineering including an emphasis on technical precision, accuracy, teamwork, communication and high quality results.

  • Kemp Langhorne - Team Lead
    Kemp is a Junior ICTN major with a Networking concentration and a minor in Business Administration. He attended Weaver Technical Academy in Greensboro where he competed in Cisco networking. He won first place in the state of NC before going on to compete at the national level. Kemp has worked various IT related jobs since he was 16 and he plans to work as a Network Engineer after graduation.

  • John Hibbs
    John is a Senior ICTN major with a double concentration in Information Technology and Security and a minor in Business Administration. He worked as an intern for Wavelength Broadband Internet and currently is a Cisco Lab Monitor at ECU. After graduation John plans to work as a Security Administrator/Engineer.

    • CCNA, Security+
    • RHCT (Red Hat Certified Technician)

  • Randy Larkin
    Randy is a Junior ICTN major with a concentration in Information Security and a minor in Business Administration. He has worked on campus as a computer and lab technician for two years. Randy was selected for the 2008 FBI Honors Internship Program where he will work this summer. After graduation he plans to work as an FBI Special Agent.

  • Joshua Lewis
    Joshua is a Sophomore ICTN major with a Networking concentration and a minor in Business Administration. He attended a technical high school and took classes that included Advanced Networking and web design. He also led a web development team during high school, which entered a regional web accessibility contest which placed third among secondary education websites. During his first year of high school he was selected to intern on an outreach web development project for DEVELOP NASA out of the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. He received recognition during his senior year of high school and was awarded an Information Technology – Graduate of Distinction scholarship award. At the end of his freshman year at ECU he interned at the Institute for Advanced Learning in the Information Technology department, where he assisted in the deployment of Cisco IP Telephony solutions, other projects, and IT operations. After graduation he plans to attend graduate school and obtain a job in network engineering research.
