Letter from the Dean of Students

RoederWebDear Student,

Navigating today’s large public university can appear very overwhelming.  Pressures to complete demanding course work, obligations to personal relationships, and responsibilities outside the classroom to a job or other co-curricular activities consume most of your valuable time. In response to your diverse needs, the university re-instated the Office of the Dean of Students.

Our primary goal is to respond to your issues and concerns. We are your campus advocate for assistance with managing a crisis, interpreting and understanding campus policy and procedure, and helping you locate the appropriate campus resource. We acknowledge that an institution like ECU can be somewhat intimidating without a support system in place. This support system extends well outside the walls of the Dean’s office. Individual counseling, disability services, student rights, student health, and off-campus services are all available to you. Take advantage of what these outstanding offices have to offer.

Looking ahead, the Office of the Dean of Students is planning for the future. A system to make it easier for you to access university policies and procedures directly from the Dean’s website is in the initial stages of development. And, in line with our core values of integrity, respect and citizenship along with our commitment to teaching civic engagement, we are renewing the University creed. Your input is important to us. Come visit the office, share your ideas with us, and express your opinions. Change is happening now, and we want you to be a part of the experience!

Best Regards,

Lynn Roeder, Ph. D.
Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students
