OCR — Convert books and documents to electronic format

Instead of using Kurzweil 1000/3000 use document conversion software such as Abbyy FineReader or ScanSoft's OmniPage. These programs are generally more up-todate and convert tables and odd formating better. However, iniitally they maybe a little harder to learn and use.

• Hardware Needed
  • Flatbed or highspeed scanner (at least 300 dpi)
• Software Needed
  • Software that comes with most scanners to save as multipage TIFF files. (Scan Utility 5000, Epson Scan II32, etc)
  • OCR software — Abbyy FineReader or ScanSoft's OmniPage
  • Text-to-speech software — JAWS, Kurzweil, ZoomText, or Natural Voice Reader
