The mission of the Department for Disability Support Services is to provide to individuals with disabilities support services that will enable them to access programs, services, facilities, and activities of the university; to enhance disability awareness among students, staff, and faculty; and to provide academic courses.
Otherwise qualified students may not be excluded from the programs and services of the university due to a psychological disorder. Some students with psychological/ psychiatric disabilities benefit from the availability of DSS to act as a liaison between the student and the faculty. Due to medication issues that may result in cognitive slowing, students may if indicated make use of the alternative testing program. Priority registration may also be beneficial in creating a schedule that doesn't interfere with regular medical appointments, therapy, and medication issues. To implement accommodation, make an appointment with a DSS counselor as early in the semester as possible. DSS will require documentation that includes the following:
Documentation prepared by providers other than clinical psychologists or psychiatrists will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
