Federal Work Study Job Search Procedures
- Federal Work Study (FWS) is a federally funded aid program for students who have demonstrated a financial need. To be eligible for the FWS Program you must have completed the 2007-2008 FAFSA form and received a Hiring Authorization Letter from the ECU Student Financial Aid office (Old Cafeteria Complex or 252.328.6610).
- Students who receive a Hiring Authorization Letter and know which on-campus department or approved off-campus Community Service Agency they want to work for may go directly to that department/agency. Have the supervisor complete and sign the middle section of the Hiring Authorization Letter and you complete the bottom section. Once completed, the original form needs to be returned to Financial Aid by the stated void date.
- All FWS positions are posted online via Career Connections. Go to www.ecu.edu/e3careers/, click on Career Connections. If you are already registered with are office you can enter your Pirate ID and password. If not, go to the "click here to register" under the student login area and follow the prompts. Once your account has been created, you can search approved FWS jobs (both on and off campus) by selecting Job Search on the menu bar. Under Position Type in the job search screen, select either FWS jobs on or off campus then click Search.
- Application procedures may vary with each position. Some jobs allow you to apply through this system as long as you have a resume or student employment application loaded in Career Connections. Check out Student Employment Resources and the Student Guide located in the Resource Library on your Career Connections homepage for instructions on creating/loading a resume and/or student employment application in the system.
- Students needing assistance with the work study job search process should attend one of the following thirty minute Federal Work Study information sessions at The Career Center (TCC). TCC is located on the corner of Fifth Street and Jarvis (next to the Chancellors residence and across from the Jenkins Art building). At the info session you will learn how to access the work-study job listings via Career Connections. Other job search strategies and tips will be covered.

working with campus departments, your tax forms and employment documentation will be handled by
your hiring department supervisor. If you will be working off-campus with an approved Community
Service Agency you will fill out tax forms and employment documentation at The Career Center.
IMPORTANT: To complete this paperwork in a timely manner, you need to bring your drivers
license, social security card, and a voided check.
