International Job Opportunities

Working in a foreign country as an intern or as a full-time employee offers the opportunity to learn about other cultures and languages while gaining professional work experience. A stay abroad serves as a good preparation to interact professionally and personally in the global community, adds a competitive advantage to your resume, and also contributes to your personal development of skills like embracing diversity, open-mindedness, mobility, and flexibility.

Researching and applying for international job opportunities is time consuming. It is recommended you start at least twelve months in advance. This allows enough time to identify the proper opportunities, to customize your resume and cover letter to the specific countries format, and to complete all appropriate paperwork (passports, visas, work permits) required by the United States government and the government of the country you want to work in.

There are numerous Fee-based Programs that assist students in job placement (internships and full-time positions) around the world. Fees for their services range widely from $100 for a work permit to several thousand dollars for everything (job placement, document preparation, travel arrangements, housing, etc...). You can review a select collection of Free Resources and Links that provide valuable resources and job information around the world.

For International Students Seeking Work Experience in the U.S.
Students who are citizens of a country other than the United States may be eligible for employment in the United States. Work authorization will depend upon the visa type in which the student has been granted admittance into the United States. All international students need approval from the ECU Designated School Official (DSO) prior to beginning any employment in the United States. The office is located in the ECU International Affairs Office located on 306 Ninth Street and can be contacted by phone at (252) 328-1939 or via email at intlstudadv@ecu.edu.

Information about immigration into the U.S. for those who have an F1 Visa can be obtained here.
