No one is going to hire you from just a resume. The goal of a
resume is to make the employer interested enough to want to offer you an interview.
The resume is your tool for marketing yourself to an employer. It tells them about
your work experience, what degree you will be receiving, and what career-related interests
you have. It presents your qualifications in a format you design to target a specific job
or role within the company. However, to create an effective piece of marketing, you have
to focus on the needs of the employer. Think about it, employees are expensive! An employer
must have specific needs, problems and challenges or they wouldn’t be willing to pay someone to
work for them. Use the Career Exploration section of our website to help you research what an
employer would hire you to do – hence their needs, problems, and challenges.
Here at ECU we offer a variety of services to help you create the most effective marketing you can.
In this section you will find handouts, sample resumes, online resume writing software and even electronic
portfolio software to help you design creative, targeted job search tools to help you get as many interviews
and job offers as you can. Remember, you have no decisions to make until someone makes you an offer!
