The Application Process

EC Scholars Admissions Process for Entering Class of Fall 2012

The EC Scholars Award is the most prestigious scholarship offered at East Carolina University. Students wishing to be considered for the EC Scholars Award will first need to be accepted into the Honors College. 

Admission to the Honors College at East Carolina University is competitive and by invitation.  Students wishing to be considered for an EC Scholars Award will first need to meet minimum eligibility criteria to receive the invitation to apply:

  • Submit a completed application for undergraduate admission to East Carolina University (ECU) by the priority deadline (December 1, 2011)
  • Meet the following minimum criteria within both the standardized test and high school achievement categories:
    • Minimum math/verbal combined SAT score of 1200 or Minimum ACT score of 27
    • Minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.5 or minimum weighted GPA of 4.0

Students who meet the above criteria will receive an invitation by mail to complete the Honors College application.  The EC Scholars Award application is located within the Honors college application. The deadline for submitting the completed EC Scholars questions (located within the Honors College application) and all associated materials is December 15, 2011.  The Honors College will acknowledge receipt of applications with an e-mail confirmation. The Honors College applications will be reviewed throughout December and January with a targeted notification date of January 31, 2012 for those students who are admitted into the Honors College.

The EC Scholars review process will occur in January and students identified as finalists will be notified of their status by a targeted notification date of February 1, 2012.  Finalists will be required to participate (in person) in the finalist interviews during Honors College weekend (February 19-20, 2012) in Greenville, North Carolina.  Recipients of the EC Scholars award will be notified by a targeted date of March 2, 2012.

Sept. 8, 2011:  ECU undergraduate admissions application window open. Visit: http://www.ecu.edu/admissions/

Sept. 8 – Dec. 1, 2011:  Qualified applicants to ECU will be sent the Honors College application by mail

Dec. 1, 2011:  Deadline for prospective Honors College students to submit a completed ECU application

Dec. 15, 2011:  Deadline for prospective students to submit a completed Honors College application, including all associated materials for sections I, II, and III

Jan. 31, 2012:  Targeted notification date for Honors College decisions

Feb. 1, 2012:  Targeted notification date for EC Scholars & Early Assurance Program finalists

Feb. 19, 2012:  Selection Sunday: EC Scholars & Early Assurance Finalist Interviews

Feb. 20, 2012:  Honors College Preview Day

March 2, 2012:  Targeted notification date for all EC Scholars & Early Assurance Program recipients

May 1, 2012:  Deadline to confirm enrollment at ECU
