A rich tradition in the fine and performing arts and an active student life program provide a full calendar of dance, music, theater, and other cultural activities.
Performing Arts
The university is widely recognized for the high quality of its music and performing arts. The School of Music is home to the world-class Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival and the Billy Taylor Jazz Festival. More than 150 public musical performances, including sacred, classical, opera, jazz, and new music, are offered by the School of Music each year in campus theaters and recital halls.
The S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series has brought more than 350 outstanding performances to ECU since it started in 1962, including Yo-Yo Ma and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gallery
The university showcases exhibits and art shows throughout the year—including the university's Dwight M. Holland Ceramics Teaching Collection, one of the largest single collections of North Carolina pottery and contemporary ceramics. The Wellington B. Gray Gallery showcases award-winning work from students as well as masterpieces from nationally renowned artists.
