Housed in the Honors College, EC Scholars is East Carolina University’s flagship merit scholarship program. As the University’s highest academic award ($45,000), the scholarship provides financial support ($10,000 per year for four years) as well as leadership and research internships throughout the undergraduate experience. Additionally, a required study-abroad experience is supported by an additional $5,000 stipend. EC Scholars Awards may be named and are supported through annual contributions or an endowment.
Students enrolled in the Honors College engage in specifically designed out-of-class activities intended to broaden their overall educational experience. These living-learning experiences are above and beyond their course work. Private funds are required to make these experiences possible. One-time contributions and annual gifts are needed to support this program.
Honors College students and faculty participate in scholarly experiences as a component of the Honors College experience. Examples include conducting research, participating in creative activities, presenting at conferences, and publishing scholarly work. The Honors College and EC Scholars Program host a number of annual events that are made possible through the generous support of alumni, donors, and friends. The Honors College regularly hosts recruitment events to introduce the college to high-school administrators and counselors across the state and the region. Additionally, signature annual events for Honors College students and EC Scholars, including Orientation, Service Day, Convocation, Commencement, and the EC Scholars Freshman Retreat are made possible through this support. One-time contributions and annual gifts are needed to support these programs.
The Honors College values international experiences as a critical component to the undergraduate experience. Study abroad experiences can be used to satisfy Honors College and University requirements. Students may receive a scholarship grant to assist them in meeting their educational expenses. Beyond the naming opportunities associated with EC Scholars Awards, the Honors College also holds naming opportunities connected to special events and spaces within the Mamie Jenkins Building.
