ECU Honors College Funding Priorities

EC Scholars Awards

Housed in the Honors College, EC Scholars is East Carolina University’s flagship merit scholarship program. As the University’s highest academic award ($45,000), the scholarship provides financial support ($10,000 per year for four years) as well as leadership and research internships throughout the undergraduate experience. Additionally, a required study-abroad experience is supported by an additional $5,000 stipend. EC Scholars Awards may be named and are supported through annual contributions or an endowment.

Richard R. and JoAnn Eakin Dean’s Priority Fund
Students enrolled in the Honors College engage in specifically designed out-of-class activities intended to broaden their overall educational experience. These living-learning experiences are above and beyond their course work. Private funds are required to make these experiences possible. One-time contributions and annual gifts are needed to support this program.

Marilyn Sheerer Fund for Academic Priorities
Honors College students and faculty participate in scholarly experiences as a component of the Honors College experience. Examples include conducting research, participating in creative activities, presenting at conferences, and publishing scholarly work. Private funds support these curricular and co-curricular academic initiatives. One-time contributions and annual gifts are needed to support the academic programs division of the Honors College.

Honors College Event Sponsorships
The Honors College and EC Scholars Program host a number of annual events that are made possible through the generous support of alumni, donors, and friends. The Honors College regularly hosts recruitment events to introduce the college to high-school administrators and counselors across the state and the region. Additionally, signature annual events for Honors College students and EC Scholars, including Orientation, Service Day, Convocation, Commencement, and the EC Scholars Freshman Retreat are made possible through this support. One-time contributions and annual gifts are needed to support these programs.

Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship Fund
The Honors College values international experiences as a critical component to the undergraduate experience. Study abroad experiences can be used to satisfy Honors College and University requirements. Students may receive a scholarship grant to assist them in meeting their educational expenses. One-time contributions and annual gifts are needed to support this program.
