Digestive problems can affect all aspects of life, interfering with and even preventing normal activities. These debilitating problems include bowel conditions like Crone’s disease and ulcerative colitis, or bleeding and stomach problems such as ulcers. Liver diseases, including viral hepatitis and cirrhosis, also benefit from specialty care.

If you need a procedure such as a colonoscopy, in most cases our physicians can perform them right on site at the
East Carolina Endocscopy Center. We offer
colonoscopies to screen for diseases and colon cancer. Because we use a special anesthesia, your recovery time is reduced from hours to a minutes. To learn more visit the Colorectal Health page.
This office also has testing and treatments using ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography). This procedure allows us to find and treat problems of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas. ERCP may uncover problems such as gallstones and cancer.

The East Carolina Endoscopy Center offers these procedures
- Screening exams for colon cancer (colonoscopy)
- Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, such as to detect Barrett’s esophagus
- FOBT (fecal occult blood test)
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Barium enema
- ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound to detect gallstone diseases, pancreatic diseases
Emergency care
If have an urgent problem, we can assess your need and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. For serious emergencies dial 911 or go to the Emergency Department.
Hospitalization
If you need to be hospitalized, we can help with your admission to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. After admission your care will be provided by a gastroenterology team that includes a doctor from ECU Physicians. Your team may also include residents, medical students or medical fellows.
