E-Mentoring Support

The attrition rate for beginning special educators is particularly high in rural schools. This is frequently due, in a large part, to the lack of master teachers who are readily available to beginning teachers. Building on the success ECU has experienced with distance education, the e-mentoring program for beginning special educators was funded through a grant from the federal government in 2005.

Approximately 20 e-mentors and e-mentees will participate per year. This website will provide a venue for scheduled and unscheduled communication among the mentoring pairs, facilitated by Dr. Jennifer Williams, ECU Special Education Program Area faculty member. Dr. Williams will facilitate discussions and post resources as identified by participants.

Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) through grant number H325K053082.
